I was speaking with a friend earlier today...
And they were telling me about a challenge they were having.
They have had different health struggles throughout their lives...
Hit Burnout a few Times...
But made a decision to Improve their Health.
It is something that has been happening More and More Frequently in Our World.
But this is where my friend became confused...
They had been doing the Work for their Health...
Eating More Food...
Eating Better Nutrients...
Getting in Exercise...
Improving their Sleep...
All things that We are Told will Help Us Feel Better.
But my Friend was Experiencing Something Different...
They were Feeling More Tired...
They Felt the Need to Sleep and Nap More Often...
Their Productivity had Taken a Dip and it Felt More Difficult to Accomplish Work...
And that Concerned Them.
Shouldn’t these Different Health Practices Help Us Feel More Energized?
Help us Be More Productive?
Prepare Us to Be Better at Our Work?
Well Yes...
And No.
This is where Psychophysiology becomes Odd.
Everything that My Friend was Experiencing...
Is Totally Normal...
And is Actually Positive...
But to Understand Why, You have to Go Back in Time...
When Our Bodies are Operating Well, Everything will Function as Normal.
But What Happens when We Experience Stressors in Our Lives?
First...
Our Bodies will Attempt to Use All Available Energy (Mg-ATP) to Handle the Stressors.
Now, if We only Experience a Short Period of Stressors, this is No Problem.
Our Bodies will Handle the Stressors, Recover Properly, and then be Ready Again.
But...
This is Not What Occurred for My Friend.
Instead of a Short Period of Stressors...
They had Experienced Many Different Stressors in Close Proximity...
Which Accumulated into Burnout...
More than Once.
Burnout is what Occurs after a Long Period of Chronic Dis-Stress.
And this is Where We Begin to Understand What My Friend is Now Experiencing...
When We are in Chronic Dis-Stress...
Part of the Problem We Experience is that We have More Energy (Mg-ATP) being Used than We can Produce.
So...
The Body begins to Go Into a Survival Situation.
To Ensure Our Survival...
The Body has to Fix this Energy (Mg-ATP) Problem.
So, if the Body Cannot Produce Enough Energy (Mg-ATP)...
It will Instead “Use” Less Energy (Mg-ATP).
How?
But Turning Off “Non-Essential” Bodily Functions.
By “Non-Essential”, I mean “Not Necessary” for Immediate Survival.
In a Survival Situation that is Temporary, this is Great.
But...
It Becomes Problematic in Chronic Dis-Stress.
Why?
“Non-Essential” for Survival is still “Necessary” for Long-Term Survival, Wellbeing, and Performance.
So What Happens if these Systems Stay Off for a Long Period of Time, such as when We Hit Burnout?
Problems.
A Lot of Problems.
As Long as these Systems Remain Off...
Our Body Does Not Prioritize Healing or Fixing these Systems.
And As Long as the Body Does Not have Enough Energy (Mg-ATP)...
This Process will Continue to Occur...
Until the Body Receives Enough Energy (Mg-ATP) to Determine that We are No Longer in a Survival Situation.
This is Where We Find My Friend.
They had Been Providing for their Health Better...
Which Told their Body that they Were No Longer in a Survival Situation.
The Result?
Their Body Began to Turn Systems Back On.
This Partially Explains “Why” they Were Feeling Tired.
Even though they Were Creating More Energy (Mg-ATP)...
Their Body was also “Using” More Energy (Mg-ATP) because More Systems Were Turning On.
Plus...
With these Systems having Been Off for So Long...
They Also Needed to Recover.
What is the One State where We Heal and Recover the Fastest?
Sleep.
This Explains Why my Friend was Feeling the Need to Sleep and Nap More Often.
That was their Body trying to Heal these Different Systems that had been Turned Off for a Long Time.
Sometimes in the Process of Recovery...
We Feel Worse before We Feel Better...
Because the Body Finally has the Ability to Turn Systems Back On that have Been Off for So Long...
Perhaps Longer than We Even Realize.
But it a Process that We Must Go Through.
It Does Help if you Know Someone who Understands this However...
Because it can be Confusing When You are Not Aware of How the Body Adjusts in Strange Ways.
Those Who Seek Sageship Also Cultivate Others!
