We have all felt it in our lives before...
Unworthy...
Unable...
Not strong enough...
Simply...
Not good enough to attain our goals.
I know I have felt it many times in my life.
I still feel it at times...
Despite...
Being a Hall of Fame Coach...
Creating an award-winning business category of Sageship...
Proving the new business model of Regenerative Legacy Design in practice...
Having written nearly over 1,150 articles of various aspects of business, leadership, psychophysiology, and more...
Becoming a podium medaling semi-professional athlete....
And having accomplished a number of fascinating things in my life.
Despite all of that...
I still feel not good enough to attain my goals.
Now...
There is a reason...
That both you and I have experienced this feeling...
Of not being good enough to attain your goals...
One which few people will ever honestly tell you...
But which can become powerful when you begin to understand it.
Are you ready to hear it?
Here it is...
You feel like you are not good enough to attain your goals...
Because you are not good enough to attain your goals.
That’s the truth of it.
Do not take that personally...
Because I am not good enough either.
This is not a “you” thing, or a “me” thing...
It is a human thing that has to do with how we process the goals we seek.
See...
When we have a goal...
It is always in the imagined “future”...
Where we “believe” we “could” get to at some indeterminate point.
Herein lies the reason why you do not feel good enough...
You are imagining a “future” version of yourself...
That you have not yet become.
Quite literally...
You’re just not there yet.
That does not mean that you are incapable of getting there...
It just means that what you imagine of yourself is not yet here.
If it was here...
Then it wouldn’t be a goal...
It just would be an average part of your life and expectations.
To give you an example...
When I began writing and publishing articles every single day...
I “imagined” the goal of writing for 30 days in a row.
I had not done it yet...
I had not developed the skills to accomplish it...
I just “believed” that I “might” be able to get there.
But when I made a decision to go for that goal...
I quickly was able to build the skills I needed...
Meaning I “grew” into the goal.
I “became” the version of myself that I imagined.
I did not start there...
It was a process.
After I attained that goal...
The new goal of writing for 365 days in a row came to mind.
I still needed a new level of growth to get there...
But I did it.
Then it became 1,000 days in a row.
I was not good enough yet at 365 days to attain that goal...
I still needed to grow into it...
Yet again...
I did.
But here is where it becomes interesting...
Writing has become such a part of my being and life...
That I do not have any new goals around writing in this way anymore.
I “could” put another number...
But I now know that I “am” the person who will be able to attain whatever number I put there.
I could put 2,000 days...
5,000 days...
10,000 days...
Or potentially even 20,000 days, God-willing...
And I would not need to “grow” further to attain that goal.
I mean...
I “will” grow...
I have dedicated myself to becoming what I call a Sage in my work...
So I am nowhere near done growing in my life...
But I know that I am good enough to continue to write articles daily...
And so it is no longer where my goals exist.
Now...
I do have “other” goals in my life...
Goals where I am not yet good enough.
But I understand how goals work.
I do not “need” to be good enough today...
It is not a problem that I am not yet good enough...
Because as long as I dedicate myself to continuing to grow...
And take action toward attaining the goal...
Then I know I will “become” the person that I envision in these goals.
If you do not feel good enough...
It is because you are not yet...
And that is ok.
That is normal.
That is to be expected.
That is a part of what it means to have real goals in life.
It only becomes a problem if you allow the “feeling” of not being good enough “yet”...
To stop you from becoming the version of yourself that, at least subconsciously, you “know” you can become.
You would not have this idea that you could attain that goal...
If you truly did not believe it possible.
That is simply not how our psychology works.
As humans, we “hate” to lose...
So, a significant portion of our psychology seeks out how “not” to lose.
When goals come into our mind...
They are generally what our current psychological beliefs see as potentially possible to get to...
Where we will be more successful than we are now.
It gets more fascinating yet though...
Because our imagination of what is currently possible...
Often is wrong...
Not in the sense that we are not able to get there...
Because we have already established subconsciously we believe it is possible...
But rather...
Our current beliefs usually “underestimate” what is possible.
See...
We do not want to lose...
On either end of the spectrum.
We do not want to stay “here”, and we “want” to get further ahead in life...
But we do not want to imagine being “too far” ahead and therefore fail to get there.
So...
We imagine “just enough” of a goal that is “reasonably” attainable...
But not enough to where we “could” lose.
The thing about growth however...
Is that as we grow...
We “become” more capable...
Often vastly more capable than our imaginations conceived as possible when the original goal was designed.
So if you do not feel good enough to attain your goals...
You are not yet...
That is ok...
And...
If you take the time to cultivate yourself and begin to take actions toward that goal...
The reality is that you will likely not only attain the goal...
But grow to a point where you realize that the original goal actually undermines your true potential.
So start working toward that goal today...
You may not be that person you see yet...
But you have every ability to become that person...
And so much more too.
