Why The World Rarely Changes
Understanding The Difference Between Theory And Reality
Why The World Rarely Changes
Understanding The Difference Between Theory And Reality
Written by a human, for humans, always.
There are many people who say they want to change the world...
I’m one of them too.
What drives most people who want to see change in the world...
Is seeing wrongdoing...
Or at least having a perception that there is something wrong.
But here is the thing...
For all the change that people want to see...
Very little of it ever happens.
We come up with all of these ideas...
Theories...
Of what a better world would look like...
But rarely do we ever see that theory become reality.
The question, though, is always...
Why?
Why is it that it appears so difficult to bring about the change we want to see in the world?
Why is it so difficult to change the world?
It can really be explained in three simple reasons.
The first...
Is that the theory does not match true reality.
There have been many theories that people have had over time...
And when looked into more closely...
They were discovered not to match our reality.
You can see this in the world with a simple idea...
Happiness.
How do you become happy in life, and what do you need to change to accomplish that?
Many people believe they know what will make them happy...
So they chase it...
They work toward it...
Many even attain it...
Only to discover that they are equally miserable...
Or worse.
The reason is that the theory they had of what changes would bring happiness...
Simply does not match with reality.
Those things they chased...
Were never going to bring them happiness.
Never.
So the change that is sought...
Never comes in reality.
For change to occur, it must actually apply in true reality.
The second...
Is that theory frequently fails to account for important factors.
Now, part of this is difficult because...
There are more factors than any human could ever account for.
Any theory you make...
Will fail to account for something.
But...
When it comes to much of the change that people seek to create...
Fail to account for things that are incredibly important.
As an example...
Many people create plans and ideas around governments and laws.
They sound really good in theory.
But the vast majority of them fail to take into account an incredibly important factor...
That they rely on people all working together...
And some people do not want to work toward that same goal.
This becomes the issue with these types of theories...
If you try to enact them...
They frequently become abused by individuals who have a different goal from the majority.
This is how many dictatorships have been formed.
The dictators saw a weakness in a governmental system that people failed to account for in the theory of how things should work...
And the dictator exploited it for their own gain.
Now...
If you are lucky...
People will actually see what is missing in the theory...
So that no one attempts to bring it to reality, where it can be exploited.
But this is also why change often takes time...
You want to test the theories as much as possible before enacting them...
Especially as those theories impact more and more people.
This means that it will take a long time.
The third...
Is if the theory is too drastic of a change, then others will refuse to accept it.
Often...
Drastic changes require significant plans...
Multiple areas of the world need to change to accommodate and allow for these changes to exist...
And if you do not change those things in such a way that allows for the transition to occur...
People will refuse to side with it.
Think of it like this...
If there was a law created and passed today that outlawed all cars...
And the only forms of travel accepted were walking or flying vehicles...
With the penalty for not doing this being life in jail without parole...
What would you do?
You’d say it was unfair!
It was ridiculous!
That there would be no feasible way for most people to get to work!
That air enforcement could not accommodate a mass influx of flying vehicles!
That it is not fair to force people to purchase flying vehicles without help!
There would be questions about what would happen to all of the businesses that make cars...
And the jobs that rely on cars being driven?
All of these things would be valid to say and question...
And it is also exactly why most change does not happen...
Because it is far too drastic for people to accept.
Even if the idea is great...
There needs to be a way for it to become implemented...
And if the change is too dramatic...
Then the most likely response will be to reject it.
You could have a perfect idea...
And if you do not create a legitimate plan for how to implement it without negatively impacting too many people...
The truth is that you do not really have a perfect idea.
When we combine all of these factors...
It can help us understand why it is so difficult to really change the world.
What most people fail to see...
Is that it is really easy to come up with ideas and theories...
Many which sounds beautiful and amazing on paper...
But it is vastly more difficult to turn that theory into a real, workable reality based on the truth.
Idealism usually fails in the face of reality and truth.
Does this mean that we should give up on the idea of changing the world?
Of course not.
There is still much that can be done to create a better world around us.
But it is important to understand what prevents change...
So that we can begin to piece together what needs to actually be accomplished...
In order to design a truly better world.
