What They Fail To Tell You About Purpose
That Causes Most People To Quit For The Wrong Reasons
Written by a human, for humans, always.
Do you have a purpose?
Or something that you believe may be your purpose?
It is a question that many people are asking about when it comes to their lives.
Indeed...
In many circles, it is considered one of the greatest pursuits...
To pursue your purpose.
It is presented to us as a calling...
A part of our hero’s journey...
And that when we begin to pursue that purpose...
It will provide what we are looking for in life.
That may be true...
But there are some things that people fail to tell you about the pursuit of your purpose.
Let’s start with this...
Pursuing your purpose will not always feel amazing.
To be completely honest...
Most of the time it will probably feel terrible.
Difficult.
Emotionally impossible.
Draining.
Heartbreaking.
Anger-inducing.
Even utterly hopeless.
All of those are just a tiny number of emotions that you may experience in the pursuit of purpose.
Sure...
You may have moments with joy...
Exhilaration....
Ecstatic enthusiasm...
But often they come and are gone just as quickly.
So many people believe that those momentary emotions are the ones that indicate that you are on the path of purpose...
And that is absolutely wrong.
If everything feels perfect all the time...
You’re either delusional...
On drugs...
Or lying to yourself.
The path toward a purpose “should” be difficult...
Filled with challenges and a wide variety of emotions.
Some that we enjoy...
And others that we do not.
Anything worth pursuing, though...
Anything worthy of being truly called a purpose...
Is going to be more difficult than we can perceive before starting the journey.
Period.
That is something you should prepare yourself for before you start toward a purpose...
Not something that you run away from when encountered.
A hero is only recognized after overcoming the monsters.
But this is not the only thing that you should be prepared for when it comes to purpose.
Another thing that many people fail to understand...
Is that often...
They do not have a “singular” purpose.
If we are really living out to our potential as humans...
We will discover that we have multiple purposes...
Sometimes for short periods of time...
Other times for long periods...
Often holding multiple purposes at the same time.
None of these add or detract from the value of a purpose in the moment.
If you feel like the path you are on now is not “doing it”...
And you are not saying that simply because it is getting difficult...
It may be because your time with that purpose is done...
Or that your role within that purpose should evolve or grow.
But it does not mean that you were not living in your purpose before...
It means that you are growing, changing, and cultivating yourself...
And that provides all sorts of different things for us to look forward to in life.
Purpose should not be a static thing...
Because we are not static ourselves.
If something no longer provides what you need to continue to evolve...
It does not mean that you were wrong for taking that path...
Or that there was no value from it.
Do not disregard or degrade what may have been a good purpose for whatever time.
Appreciate it for what every purpose is...
A stage of life.
It may be a short stage...
It may be a long stage...
It may even be the one that continues to the final stage...
But it was a stage that has inherent value and worth no matter the stage.
There is every reason in life to pursue a purpose...
But do not fall into the false idol traps of what many claim purpose to be...
Otherwise, you will find yourself always unhappy in your life...
Unable to appreciate and see the value of whatever purpose you are currently living.
