What Most People Are Not Prepared For To Achieve Long-Term Goals

Why Knowing Expectations Is Important

If We Want Our Lives to Improve, it is Important to Set Goals for Ourselves.

In many circles, they ask this question...

Where Do You See Yourself In...?

The Timeline they add here will depend on the person asking.

One Year.

Five Years.

Ten Years.

But this Question is Designed to Push Us to Think about Our Long-Term Goals.

Indeed...

Without "Knowing" Our Goals, We Will Struggle to Attain Them.

Why?

Intentionality.

As Humans, Growth Only Happens Intentionally.

If We are Not Directed at a "Specific" Form of Growth that We Determine...

We End Up Stuck in Cycles of Decay.

All Growth is Intentional.

However...

When We Begin to Think About the Long-Term Goals in Our Lives...

We Begin to Find Another Challenge.

See...

When We Begin to Dream About Our Goals...

The Sky is the Limit.

We Tend to Focus on the End of the Goal...

We Think About How Incredible it Will Feel to Reach that Mark of Success...

And it Usually Feels Incredible.

This Creates an Excitement to Begin on the Journey.

But this is Where We are Hit With the Challenge...

We Usually are Told to Focus on the Goal...

Yet are Unaware of What Really Goes "Into" Attaining the Goal.

The Result?

We are Struck with a Plethora of Unexpected Occurrences.

We will Struggle with Motivation.

There will be Days or Weeks with Exhaustion.

Our Emotions will Swing Through Our Lives like Wrecking Balls.

All of These and More Will Pummel Us...

Most of the Time...

This will Occur Unexpectedly.

It will Feel like Being Forced onto a Roller Coaster Blindfolded and Getting Tossed in Unknown Directions for an Undetermined Amount of Time.

The Difference is that on a Roller Coaster You are Strapped In Until the Very End...

But with Our Long-Term Goals We Know that We can Quit at Any Time.

For Most People...

They Will Quit.

If We "Just" Look at New Year's Resolutions...

92% of People Quit.

That Does Not Include All the Other Dreams that People Give Up On along the Way.

Some Reports say that 98% of People Fail to Attain their Long-Term Dreams.

That Means, Based on Today's World Population based on Today's UN Estimates...

Over 8 Billion People will Fail their Long-Term Dreams.

The Main Reason...

Is that They are Not Expecting the Inevitable Challenges on the Path to their Dreams.

See...

When it Comes to Psychophysiology...

When We are Not Expecting Something to Occur...

A Few Things Occur.

Psychologically, We are Hit Harder because We are Unprepared.

When We are Aware of the Potential Hits, We Can Prepare and Position Ourselves Better to Handle the Hit Better.

We Can Brace for the Hits.

But it is Impossible to Brace when they are Unexpected...

So the Risks for Damage are Higher.

With This...

When We are Struck Unexpectedly...

It will Cause a Shock in Our Bodies.

This will Directly Cause Dis-Stress...

And that Dis-Stress will then Become Stored Somewhere in Our Nervous System.

The Worse the Shock...

The More that the Nervous System will Store.

Our Nervous Systems are Designed to Pay Attention and Keep Us Safe from Extreme Dis-Stress...

But when the Nervous System is Activated on the Path Toward Our Long-Term Goals...

It May "Interpret" that the Entire Goal is Too Dangerous.

Then...

At a Subconscious Level...

Our Nervous System will Purposefully Attempt to Disuade Us from Pursuing that Goal.

The Result?

We are More Likely to Give Up on the Long-Term Goal.

We will Begin to "Become Distracted" from the Goal More Easily.

We will "Get Interested" in Other Goals.

We will "Forget" to Do Important Things that are Needed to Attain the Goal.

We will "Get Tired" of Losing Every Time We Try to Walk the Path to Get to the Goal.

The Result of All of This is that We Fail to Achieve the Long-Term Goals...

Because We Do Not have the Proper Expectations.

If We are Going to Actually Get to the Goals...

We Must Be Prepared with the Knowledge that It Will Not Be Easy...

That there Will be Struggles...

That there Will be Days Without Motivation...

That Our Emotions will Sometimes Feel like a Roller Coaster.

All of this "Is" a Normal Part of All Long-Term Goals.

Have the Proper Expectations...

Be Ready.
