The Why Not Approach
Something That Has Launched My Career In Interesting Ways
Written by a human, for humans, always.
There are some days when I find myself looking at my career...
Asking how I got here...
And wondering what even my career is?
I am...
A Sageship coach...
Who is in the Leadership Coaching Hall of Fame...
Having received the Executive Coaching Leader of the Year Forttuna Award (aka Business’ Golden Globes), being featured on a billboard in Times Square, NY...
A licensed and triple board-certified functional medicine practitioner...
Having received a “Top Doctor” Award for Excellence in Medicine and Health...
A United Nations Representative to the AWWG at the United Nations Economic and Social Council...
A daily digital writer, writing and publishing articles every single day, with a nearly 1,250 streak...
A Top Creator on multiple platforms, being recognized with over 150 awards and nominations for my work, especially within business, psychology, and health...
A university advisor for their Strategic Artificial Intelligence Program...
And a semi-professional athlete, focused on obstacle course racing and endurance events.
Just...
How did this all come to be?
The answer really comes down to an approach that I have had toward my career...
Ever since I first became an entrepreneur.
I call it a “Why Not” approach.
It is as simple as it sounds.
An opportunity comes my way...
Then I say...
Why not?
I just run with it.
Has it always worked out?
No.
But sometimes, even when things did not work out...
It opened the door to another opportunity.
As an example...
In 2024, I was invited to participate in a Health & Fitness competition.
Was it something that I was working toward?
No.
Was there a way I could utilize it toward my goals in life?
I had some ideas of how I might be able to apply it.
So I said, “Why Not” and joined in.
Did I win?
No...
Though I was the runner-up in my group.
However, I wrote about my competition...
What went well...
What I had hoped for...
What did not go well...
And my beliefs and approach to health and fitness.
That got noticed and led to my first sports sponsorship.
Here is what is important about the “Why Not” approach.
I have found that opportunities exist all around us...
But many people say no...
For a variety of reasons.
They may not be paying attention.
They may think the opportunity is “not for them”.
They may have doubts about their capabilities.
So...
They do not take the opportunity...
And they end up...
Exactly where they are...
With a new challenge...
They have begun a habit of not taking opportunities.
They say no to one...
Then another...
And another...
Then they become so habituated to saying no...
That they never really move anywhere...
Until opportunities stop going toward them because they have always said no.
On the other hand...
You can have an opportunity...
It may not be “perfect”...
It may even seem odd...
Or like you may not necessarily be the “right” fit...
But...
If it has come to you...
“Why Not”?
What is the worst that can happen?
You end up on a journey that does not go anywhere...
So you go back...
Where you would have been anyway.
Except...
You also have the benefit of new experiences...
And have begun a different habit of taking opportunities.
Suddenly...
You begin to find opportunities that work out for you...
More opportunities come your way because you have begun to have success within opportunities...
Until you become the first choice for the opportunities you want...
And no one questions whether you are the right person...
Even if you really have no idea yourself...
All because you had a different approach...
“Why Not”?
To Your Sageship,
