The Warrior's Problem

How An Identity Can Warp The World Around Us

We put so much Emphasis on the Idea of a Warrior in Today's World.

Having a Warrior's Heart.

Their Courage to Stand Up to the Wrongs in the World.

Being Ready to Take Action.

These are Good Traits in Many Many Ways...

There are Many Dark things in the World.

People are Needed to Stand Against the Dark.

There is a Need.

A Significant Need for Good People to Rise to the Occasion.

However...

There is a Problem that can Come with Being a Warrior.

It is a Threefold Problem.

It has to Do with Perception...

The Warrior Sees the World in a Certain Way...

Light and Dark...

Good and Evil...

Oppressors and Saviors...

Battles that Need to be Fought...

The Warrior looks at the World and Sees War...

But the First Problem is that this is a Very Simplified View of the World.

Oversimplified.

It Pushes us to Create Categories that May Not Exist in Reality.

Light and Dark...

Good and Evil...

Oppressors and Saviors...

These are Categories of "Us" and "Them".

But Most People are Not Fully Light or Dark.

We are Mostly Gray...

Struggling with Our Own Versions of Darkness...

Hoping to Obtain Our Own Versions of Light.

Some Do It Much Better than Others.

Some have Lost the Sight of the Light...

But it is Rare for there to be "Truly" Simplified Categories of Individuals.

Yet, when We Perceive the World in this Way...

We Begin to Force these Categories into Existence...

For Better or Worse.

We put the "Good" in Some People on Pedestals...

While Ignoring the Problems they Present...

Which Encourages the Problems to Persist.

And We Demonize the "Bad" in Others...

While Missing the Factors that Drove them to that Point...

Which Prevents Us from Building a Better World.

It can also Cause Us to Quickly Change Our Perceptions of Individuals.

People We Once Saw as Heroes Quickly Become Villains.

Villains become Viewed as Redeemable Too Quickly.

All because We Oversimplify things that are Vastly More Complex.

But the Next Aspect of the Warrior's Problem...

Is that When We Find What You Look For.

If You are Looking for Battles...

You Will Find Battles.

If You are Looking for Villains...

You Will Find Villains.

Whatever You Look for in Life...

You will Find It...

Or at Least "Some" Version of It.

But if You are Always Looking for Battles...

You Never Really Stop Fighting.

There is No End to It.

You will Come to the Conclusion of One Battle...

Only to Find Another around the Corner.

Warriors have a Tendency to Always be Ready to Fight...

Which Means they Find Fights...

Constantly...

Which Brings Us to the Third Aspect...

There are Too Many Battles.

Between the Battles that Need to be Fought...

And the Battles We Create...

The Reality is that there are Too Many Battles for Anyone.

The Warrior Goes from One Fight to the Next...

Always Looking for More Fights...

Seeing the Needs in the World...

Yet Being Limited in Our Abilities...

But Still Seeking to Fight.

No Individual...

No Matter How Great or Wonderful they May Be...

Can Fight in Every Fight.

There are Limitations.

We are Human.

No Matter How Many Fights We Find or Attempt to Participate In Throughout Our Lives...

We Will Never Be Able to Effectively Fight in them All.

Many have Tried...

Some have Done Well with their Abilities...

But there are...

And will Always Be...

Too Many Battles.

When We Take on the Identity of a Warrior...

Especially when it Becomes Our Sole Identity that We Carry...

The Identity can Warp the World Around Us...

And It Can Cause Us to Miss The Ultimate Goal of the Warrior...

To Never Need to Fight...

Peace.
