The Two Types Of Freedom

The Reason Why Most People Do Not Have The Life They Want

In the States, we have a deeply ingrained belief in freedom.

We will do just about anything to keep our freedom.

Yet...

When we look at most people’s lives...

We discover that even though they have freedom...

They do not have the life they want.

Very few people have a life they desire.

But how is that possible?

If we have freedom...

How do we not have the life we want?

The reason is simple...

There are two types of freedom.

What is interesting about these two types of freedom...

Is that they have vastly different results.

There is a great Bible verse that helps us understand this...

“For me there are no forbidden things, but not everything does good. True there are no forbidden things, but it is not everything that helps the build to grow.” 1 Corinthians 10:23

This verse is getting at the fact that there are two types of freedom.

The first type of freedom is that to do anything at all.

Nothing is forbidden.

But within anything being available for us...

The vast majority of it does not benefit us...

Does not build us up.

We may have freedom to partake in those many things...

But to do so actually destroys us.

We are indeed free...

To choose the path of our own destruction.

This is the form of freedom that causes most people to end up in a life they regret.

But there is another type of freedom...

The freedom to build ourselves up...

To live into our potential.

This second type of freedom has a requirement though...

One that we must choose for ourselves.

To attain our potential...

Where we will feel most free...

And obtain the type of life that we want...

We must choose...

To limit what we allow ourselves to do.

It is, in some sense, ironic...

That this form of freedom requires us to deny ourselves other freedoms.

Not out of requirement...

But out of choice.

This is the reality of these two freedoms...

Unlimited freedom causes us to become enslaved to many things...

While purposeful limitations can allow us to attain the freedom of our potential.

Which freedom will you choose?
