The Two Factors Most Likely To Prevent You From Having The Life You Want
How Most People Completely Misunderstand These Two Factors
The Two Factors Most Likely To Prevent You From Having The Life You Want
How Most People Completely Misunderstand These Two Factors
Written by a human, for humans, always.
Most people are struggling.
Even those who appear like they are having the life they desire...
Are not really.
The reality is that for every 100 people who appear to be doing well...
98 of them are not doing well at all...
And the other two usually still have significant challenges obtaining the life they want.
What I have discovered in working with people...
Is that everyone has challenges having the life they want...
Even when individuals recognize they have a good life...
And are truly grateful for what they already have...
We as humans still have a desire for positive growth in our lives.
Now...
In moving toward the goals that we have in life...
To obtain the life that we want...
I have found that there are typically two major factors that people face in today’s world...
But...
Even if people “know” that these are the challenges...
I have found that most people misunderstand how these factors are negatively impacting them...
And I’ll prove it by telling you the way you are likely looking at these factors...
But how you are looking at it incorrectly.
The first factor is energy (Mg-ATP)...
The literal currency that our cells utilize to power the body.
Now what most people believe is that to improve energy...
They need to improve their diet and exercise...
Which is technically correct...
But how people go about it is completely wrong.
Why?
Most of how people approach improving energy...
Is eating healthier and doing more exercise.
But the problem is...
Not all food...
Even food that is actually healthy...
Is equal...
And not all exercise is equal as well.
When it comes to energy (Mg-ATP) specifically...
We are looking at both energy creation and energy use.
For instance...
If we look at energy creation...
There are multiple factors that go into it.
There is, of course, the macronutrients- fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
Technically, our body can produce energy from all three...
But they are not equal processes.
Carbohydrates are faster to produce energy, but significantly less efficient and create more oxidative stress...
Similar to a diesel car engine.
Fats take longer to produce energy, but are significantly more efficient...
Like a hybrid car engine.
Proteins both take longer to produce energy and are extremely inefficient...
Like pushing your vehicle as a last resort.
Now, as long as you have regular access to food...
You probably do not need to worry much about the protein aspect.
But what you do need to be concerned about...
Is the threshold where the body transitions from fat usage to carbohydrate usage...
And what that means in the aftermath of that usage.
What most people struggle with...
Is that their threshold is extremely low.
At the mitochondrial level...
Where the energy (Mg-ATP) is actually produced...
There is damage that has made their cells less able...
And in some cases completely unable...
To use fat for fuel.
The result...
Is that it forces the body to use carbohydrates for fuel...
More quickly...
For less energy-intensive tasks...
Which means...
There is more oxidative stress, or cellular exhaust, that is left behind.
Now this becomes a problem when we consider another part of this problem...
That our ability to clear exhaust requires proper micronutrients...
In the proper proportions.
This is one area where many people go wrong...
Because the food they eat does not account for micronutrients in general...
Let alone the proper ratios that are needed.
What you see for many people...
Is that they get too much of some nutrients...
And not enough of others...
Which actually creates larger problems in the body...
Causes damage...
Which require more energy (Mg-ATP) to resolve...
Meaning they end up spending energy more quickly trying to fix all the damage.
Can you see the problem here?
The fat-to-carbohydrate threshold is too low...
There is too much buildup of oxidative stress that cannot be resolved fast enough...
And the micronutrient profile is all wrong, causing further issues...
Making it so that the body requires vastly more energy than can be created.
Then...
When you add exercise...
Most people push themselves at a level which requires their body to rely on carbohydrates even more...
Meaning...
Their exercise is actually exacerbating all the other problems.
See...
Energy is about more than just healthy eating...
It requires fixing the mitochondria so that it can use fats for fuel...
Raising the fat-to-carbohydrate threshold...
Getting the right micronutrient balance...
And clearing out the oxidative stress so that the body can properly repair itself.
This is how most people are misunderstanding the energy (Mg-ATP) problem.
But there is a second factor to consider...
Emotions.
The vast majority of people are struggling to resolve the emotions that they have...
But here is where most people go wrong...
They are looking at emotions from a purely brain perspective.
This means that people are doing things like seeking therapy, getting emotional help from a psychologist, journaling, meditating, and similar methodologies.
Is it wrong to do these different things?
Of course not.
They can be tremendously beneficial...
When...
The challenges of the emotions are at a brain level.
But here is what most people do not realize...
Emotions impact us at further levels than just our brains.
This tendency for us to go straight to brain solutions is what I call the “Brain Trap”...
It is the belief that all problems can be solved through the brain...
While missing or ignoring other factors that create real, significant challenges...
That most are unaware exist.
When it comes to emotions...
There are actually three other systems in the body that can create emotional challenges.
The gut microbiome...
The nervous system...
And the emotional impact on our neurocardiology in our environments.
The challenge for most people...
Is determining which of these are at play.
If we look at the first...
For us to experience certain emotions...
We need different neurochemicals, like neurotransmitters and hormones.
Here’s what most people do not realize...
These do not just magically appear.
Many of them require not only specific nutrients via food...
Which many people are missing these...
But also require specific gut microbacteria to produce.
You can think of the gut microbacteria as little factories within us...
Each one is designed to take certain raw ingredients and turn them into finished products.
If you do not have the right factories...
You cannot get the right finished products.
This is the problem that many people face.
Their gut microbiota have been attacked and diminished in such a way...
That certain neurochemicals and hormones are difficult or impossible to produce...
Because the necessary microbiota are missing or in such small quantities that they are outcompeted by other microbiota...
That the microbiota that are outcompeting usually create additional problems themselves.
So...
What this does is make it difficult to impossible for the body to actually experience certain emotions...
Because the necessary ingredients just are not there.
It is like if you wanted to bake a cake, but did not have flour, butter, milk, eggs, or baking powder...
Good luck making a cake.
This is a significantly larger factor in the emotions that people experience than most people realize.
If we look at the second system...
We find that the nervous system is one area that is greatly misunderstood...
But plays a significant role in what emotions we experience...
And how often.
See...
One of the nervous system’s goals is preparing and activating the body whenever there is a potential threat.
It will optimize and direct our energy in such a way as to maximize our ability to overcome these potential threats.
The nervous system can do this by taking specific “aspects” of what happens to us...
And stores them within the nervous system as what are called “memory capsules”...
Which can activate whenever we experience something “similar” to a potential threat we experienced in the past.
Here is the problem...
Just because the body experiences something as a potential threat does not necessarily mean it was a “real” threat...
The nervous system does not automatically distinguish between these...
Just about anything can be stored as a potential threat in a memory capsule...
Including color, smells, shapes, sounds, similar physical appearances, feelings, and more...
And these memory capsules can trigger both before the brain recognizes what is happening and regardless of whether the brain understands whether the threat is real or not.
Let me give you an example.
As a little kid, you are around a dog that is snapping at people near you.
You were not next to the dog.
The dog did not snap at you.
In fact, the dog was actually just playing in a normal dog fashion with others simply in the vicinity of you.
But it does not matter if your brain understands this now...
Your childhood experience saw the dog snapping as a potential threat to safety...
And now your nervous system has stored a memory capsule that anything dog-shaped could be a potential threat.
Today you come across a small terrier...
Extremely friendly...
Does not even bark.
It walks up to you patiently and sits, hoping for a pet.
Consciously, you know this dog is cute and friendly...
That is your brain talking.
But subconsciously, you feel uneasy around the dog...
Not wanting to approach it.
That is your nervous system activating the memory capsule, warning you that this dog “might” be dangerous.
Here is the problem many people face...
You cannot resolve the nervous system problem with a brain solution.
So your journaling and talk therapy...
Even if they are beneficial...
Does not resolve the memory capsule.
So the emotional impact is still going to impact you.
If we look at the third system...
We as humans exist as interdependent beings.
We are able to act and function on our own...
But in our psychophysiological design, we are also made to work “with” others.
We see this interaction in our neurocardiology, or our heart-brain.
Our hearts generate the strongest electromagnetic field in the body...
Which has been measured anywhere from 3 to 15 feet away from us.
Here is what is important for this conversation...
The heart’s electromagnetic field directly interacts with the electromagnetic fields of everyone we are surrounded by.
What does this mean?
If you are walking past anyone within that 3 to 15 feet radius...
You are going to impact them...
And they are going to impact you.
Further...
When we experience different emotional states...
The electromagnetic field generated by the heart changes...
Which can be measured through HRV-coherence...
Which is different from HRV-total, which is what you see many devices today measure.
So if you are experiencing happiness or peace...
That will be one form of electromagnetic field that the heart generates.
If you are experiencing sadness or anxiety...
That will be a different form of electromagnetic field that the heart generates.
So...
What happens when these different fields interact?
They begin to pull on each other to attempt to match each other...
Known as entrainment.
So...
It is possible for the person in happiness and peace to “pull” the other person into happiness and peace with them...
And...
It is possible for the person in sadness and anxiety to “pull” the other person into sadness and anxiety with them.
Both are possible...
Depending on whose pull is stronger.
The problem for many people?
Is that they have never trained their hearts to handle this entrainment problem...
And they are usually around multiple people who are in negative states of being...
Meaning they are vastly more likely to become entrained into those negative states of being.
This is part of why burnout got better during COVID...
Then got worse after the return-to-work mandates.
When people were able to escape their offices...
They were no longer surrounded by people in burnout...
Therefore, they were not getting entrained into the negative states of being that people experience in burnout.
But when they were forced back into the office...
Mostly against their will, which put them into a negative state of being...
Burnout began to get worse once again...
To the point where it has spread to over 80% of the workforce...
With it expected to continue to get worse.
Now...
Did working from home solve everything?
No.
There was a different problem of loneliness that many people experienced, and the fear of COVID also was not helpful.
But was it helpful for the problem of burnout and recovery?
Absolutely.
All of this is to say that the environments we put ourselves in have a direct psychophysiological impact on us...
Directly impacting the emotions we experience.
Here is the takeaway from all of this...
Psychophysiology is complex...
And even when we might understand what the problems are...
Such as our energy (Mg-ATP) and our emotions...
Does not mean we actually understand why those are a problem...
And if we look at the results most people achieve...
It is clear that most people are not resolving the problems...
Because they misunderstand how these factors work.
What this means...
Is that you want to attain the life you want...
You need to figure out exactly how these challenges are playing out for you...
And you might have to go outside of the conventional models to attain the life you want.
If the conventional models actually worked...
We would see vastly more people attaining the life they wanted.
Maybe not everyone...
But significantly more than what we see today.
So if you want a different type of life...
You must understand differently.
