The Problem With Precision Medicine
Why The Theory Does Not Work In Reality And What It Misses
I was listening to a lecture earlier...
And one of the concepts they were talking about was Precision Medicine.
The idea sounds great...
And if it worked, it would be amazing in Medicine.
For those who are not aware, I’ll explain the idea.
The idea is that there is a goal to improve Medicine...
A Progression in the Model of Medicine.
It is broken down into three stages.
It starts with Intuitive Medicine, where a Doctor uses their deep expertise and intuition to guide their treatments.
The downside to this is that human psychophysiology is extremely complicated...
As well as potential dangers where a Doctor is misled to believe a treatment worked when it was really a different factor, such as the Placebo Effect.
This progresses to the next stage of Empirical Medicine, where research is done to verify treatments and validate approaches.
This helps to solve for problems like the Placebo Effect, and can be used to find better treatments...
But still has the problem of the complexity of human psychophysiology.
This is where Precision Medicine comes in.
By taking all of the Empirical Medicine, and utilizing technology...
You could more quickly identify the problems...
And get specific treatments and recommendations...
All based on a larger variety of information that a doctor may not be able to easily sift through.
Now, in today’s world, people are talking about utilizing AI to aid in Precision Medicine.
Now, the Theory of this sounds amazing.
Personalized Medicine...
More accurate...
Faster...
With the ability to select for the best treatment pathways based on all of the factors at play.
Indeed, we have seen some successes with the idea of Precision Medicine in identifying certain rare diseases that most doctors would miss.
But...
The truth is that the Theory will not work to bring in a new age of health in reality...
And the Theory also misses something that is important.
Why?
Let’s start with the problem of reality.
For Precision Medicine to work...
It needs everything before it to be of the highest quality.
The Empirical Medicine must be accurate and reflect the highest standards of scientific research and validation based on truth...
And Intuitive Medicine must be researched in its entirety and in fairness.
But that is the problem.
When we look at scientific research...
Neither of these is true.
There has been extreme bias in what types of research are funded...
And many modalities that have not been researched fairly...
Utilizing research methodology that purposefully makes certain modalities look ineffective, not based on truth, but based on intentional bad design...
With some modalities being actively blocked from gaining research that may prove them as better treatments for the sicknesses that we see today.
How do I know?
I have read the bad research...
The junk research...
The AI slop research...
And I have watched Court Cases where good doctors who promoted new modalities were prevented from using these modalities based on “business” technicalities, while opposing sides “admitted” to these modalities being effective.
Yes, that is correct...
There was “admittance” in these Court Cases that these other modalities “worked” by the doctors who were “actively” trying to oppose those modalities.
And I have seen how those same modalities were not only prevented from gaining the “ability” to do better research...
But also seen the Astroturf Campaigns that these proponents of different modalities were faced with, “despite” there being clear evidence that their methods work.
What does all of this mean?
The data that is being utilized within Precision Medicine is skewed...
Purposefully.
Meaning that, at the end of the day, the treatments will also be skewed.
It is actually worse than this as well...
Because the data that is being utilized and focused on within Precision Medicine...
Fails to address any of the root causes of disease and sickness.
Instead of looking for the primary causes...
It utilizes data that requires Patients to already be “sick” before a diagnosis or treatment can be given.
The result is that Precision Medicine does not actually create a new age of health...
It simply waits for people to get sick and diseased...
And is faster at diagnosing those sicknesses and diseases...
While recommending biased treatments...
Which, if we look at today’s world of Medicine...
Are not designed to heal us...
Just prevent us from dying while keeping us perpetually on those treatments...
Often, and sadly, utilizing emotional and/or physical addiction to keep us coming back for more.
The other problem with much of the research utilized...
Is that a growing proportion of it...
Is based on a profoundly sick society.
What this means is that the data that Precision Medicine is based on...
Does not represent true health...
But the average level of sickness in today’s world.
Again, it does not really have the capacity to bring in a new era of health...
Because the data, research, and methodologies that are utilized are not based on true health.
With all of that being said...
There is still one other aspect that Precision Medicine ends up missing.
The value of Intuitive Medicine.
Should a Doctor’s treatments and methods be verified and tested through empirical methods?
Yes.
Can those empirical methods, when done well and in truth, be compiled and utilized to be helpful to Doctors through the concept of Precision Medicine?
Absolutely.
But what Precision Medicine cannot do is look at information in non-linear ways, create new and innovative treatments, and see between the lines.
No machine, not even AI, has proven itself capable of doing any of these.
Not even remotely close.
Precision Medicine cannot replace the Human Doctor’s Intuition.
It can absolutely supplement the Doctor’s Intuition...
Help guide and direct Doctors, especially those with less experience...
Tailor the experience for Patients, perhaps even when their Doctor is not available...
But not replace.
Precision Medicine can be beneficial...
If done correctly...
But it is not the solution that we need to find True Health in today’s world.
