The Peak Performer's Dilemma
The Reason That Your Success May Limit Your Potential
I was talking with a Friend the Other Day.
They have been the Number One Producer of Results within their Organization for Two Years Running.
Truly, Incredible.
But they Told Me a Challenge that they were having...
Their Success was Unsustainable.
The Powers that they Answer To are Demanding More.
But the Methods My Friend had Used to get where they were No Longer Usable.
Such is a Challenge with the Changes of Technology.
Despite that, these Powers Still Were Demanding More of My Friend.
More, More, More.
But My Friend Simply Is Unable To Produce More.
What My Friend was Discovering is The Peak Performer's Dilemma.
Success is an Interesting but Tricky Thing.
Many People and Leaders Wrongly Believe that Success is Something that is Static.
Once you Have Success, it Simply Is.
If You Want "More" Success, then You Just Do "More" of What Made You Successful.
But that is Wrong.
Many Peak Performers "Attempt" to Do This...
For a while, it Does Work...
Until it Stops Working Completely.
The Problem is that Any Linear Solution eventually Stops Working due to the Constraints of Reality.
There are Only So Many Hours in a Day.
There is Only So Much Energy (Mg-ATP) the Body can Produce at Any Time.
There is Only So Much Work that is Psychophysiologically Healthy for Us as Humans.
You Can "Add" More Up Until these Limits.
Then, if You Attempt to Go "Beyond" Those Limits?
You Hit Burnout.
Which begins to Generate Negative Results Over Time.
The Further into Burnout that You Go?
The Worse Your Results Become.
This Means that, with Any Linear Solution...
Any Time You Do "More" of the Same...
You Will Eventually Fall Off a Cataclysmic Cliff.
This is Why Successful People Quickly Begin to Fail, and Fail Spectacularly.
They Subconsciously Believe that What Allowed Them to Succeed So Far will Continue to Allow Them to Succeed Infinitely Linearly.
This is a form of Bias that We Develop.
A Bias that Leads to Failure Over Time.
This is Why Most of the "Top Companies" Today have Not Actually Created Anything Innovative for Years...
And Instead are Forced to Purchase Companies that are "Truly" Innovative...
Or Become Insignificant.
These Companies are Stuck in Linear Thinking and Failing to Move Beyond That.
These Leaders Are Not and Have Not Been Successful for a Long Time, and are simply Maintaining a Performative Straw-Man Image of their Capabilities.
The Cult of the CEO is Finished.
It is also Why AI Can and Will Replace the Vast Majority of Today's CEO's, even if that is Not What Organizations Actually Need for Future Success.
Here's a Good Way to Understand This...
If You Believe AI Can Replace You...
Then You Were Never Even Relatively Close to Your Potential as a Human Being.
This is the Problem of How Most People Look at Success.
They Push for Linear Results...
But Always Hit the Eventual Barriers of Life.
So, What Can You Do To Avoid This Outcome?
You Must Stop Thinking Linearly.
Adding More Of The Same Will Fail Eventually.
You must, of course, begin with Linear Thinking, at least to the Point where You Get Diminishing Returns.
But... Once You Begin to See Diminishing Returns...
You Must Change Strategies.
You Must Begin to Think Exponentially.
What Does This Usually Require?
Often, it Means Completely Breaking the Systems of Today.
A Great Example of this is Travel.
Humans used to be Forced to Walk from Place to Place.
Walking can become Running, which is a Linear Solution, but there is a Limit.
From there, Humans Used Horses to Go Faster, which is an Exponential Solution.
But Horses, too, can Only Run so Fast, which is a Linear Solution.
So, Humans transitioned to Cars, which is an Exponential Solution.
Then, we have worked on Making Cars Faster Since, which is a Linear Solution.
But the Current Restraint of Today is Roads.
You can Only Make them So Big and have Only So Much Material You Can Use Between Maintaining and Building New Roads.
This is Why Some People are Looking at Personal Air Vehicles as the Next Exponential Jump.
Without Roads, You No Longer are Limited by their Maintenance, Upkeep, and Size.
Of course, there will be New Problems, of which Sound Seems to be the Largest Today, and Eventually there will be Problems of Congestion...
But those are Normal Types of Problems to Expect with Exponential Thinking.
New Exponential Ideas Solve Old Linear Problems while Creating New Problems, which will be Solved Linearly Until the Constraints of Reality are Reached.
The Point is that if we Limited Ourselves to Linear Thinking, we would be Stuck Trying to Run Faster.
This is Also Why Most People's Use Cases for AI Will Ultimately Fail.
The Way people are Seeking to Utilize AI is Mostly Linear, which will Quickly Reach their Limits and become Stuck.
For Exponential Thinking, You Must Go from Being a Peak Performer (Or Master) and Begin to Become a Sage of Your Industry.
It is the Sage that Fundamentally Creates a New Future, and Continues to Do So.
The Sage Does This by Questioning Today's World, and Seeking New Exponential Solutions to Design the Future.
Instead of Attempting to Unsuccessfully Fight Against the Linear Constraints of Reality...
They Reject the Idea that Linear Solutions are the Only Way.
They Create New Futures that Reject the Need for What Causes Linear Problems.
By Doing This, They See and Create the Future.
If You Consider Yourself a Peak Performer or Master of Your Craft...
But are Finding Yourself Stuck from Getting Further?
It is Highly Likely that Your Challenge is the Peak Performer's Dilemma.
It is Time for You to Become a Sage.
