The Parasite Of The Human Spirit

The Struggle To Continue Forth In Our Lives

Written by a human, for humans, always.

Some days...

It is a struggle.

To move forward.

To make progress.

To do anything.

Even when you understand that one of the only ways to do these...

Is to get proper recovery.

Even when you seek to do everything correctly...

Sometimes it is still a struggle.

You begin to wonder if everything you put into it is worth it...

Or whether life would be better if you just...

Stopped.

Perhaps lived more simply.

Gave up what you are pushing toward...

And just accepted...

Whatever came while living simply.

It is something that comes into the mind...

Burrows into it...

Like a parasite that seeks to infest your entire consciousness...

Forcing you to succumb to its needs.

But even if it seems like it would be so easy...

So simple...

It is a trap.

This form of parasite feeds on what we give up in life.

Our goals.

Our hopes.

Our dreams.

It is a spiritual parasite that seeks to consume the entirety of your will.

For each time you give up...

And give in...

You feed this parasite.

Each time you feed it...

It begins to seek new grounds in your life to feast further.

If you allow it space to burrow and consume...

It will continue to try to spread...

And if you deny it...

It will then burrow deeper where it lies until it becomes so miserable...

That we begin to falter in other aspects of our lives...

Let our guards down...

And the parasite will take the opportunity to spread its dominion...

Until your spirit is so shattered...

That all seems hopeless.

The spread can move faster than wildfire...

Leaving a path of destruction.

But this is what most people fail to understand...

The parasite has a weakness...

Hope.

Even a small amount of hope that is kept can keep the parasite at bay...

It is an antiparasitic.

But the parasite will not go down without a fight.

When it encounters hope...

It will attempt to overwhelm with doubt...

With fear...

With the pain of our failures...

Striking at every emotion it can...

Exhaustion...

Anguish...

Melancholy...

If it can overwhelm the hope...

It can continue to den and tunnel deeper into our lives.

But...

The parasite of the spirit cannot do anything to hope directly...

Only indirectly.

As long as hope remains...

The parasite is powerless to move forward.

Which then brings us to the question...

What will you allow to grow?

The parasite?

Or the hope?

The thing about hope...

Is that it works best with action.

The more action toward something we have...

The more evidence we gain...

The stronger the hope becomes...

The easier it is for hope to spread.

But what so many people fail to understand...

Is how little action and evidence are required...

In the beginning.

Hope interacts powerfully with momentum...

But few people ever get started...

Or they quit far too early to gain momentum.

But small actions...

Provide evidence.

Evidence provides hope.

Hope creates an opening for desire to take more action.

It becomes a virtuous cycle...

That continues to spread throughout our lives.

It does not necessarily make things easy...

We will still face struggles...

But if we continue to hold onto hope...

And take action with what we are able...

We can overcome the parasite of the human spirit.

The further hope spreads...

The more inhospitable our lives become to the parasite...

And it begins to retreat...

Seeking out a different host where it will not face so much hope.

When the struggle to continue enters into your life...

Do not be fooled...

It is a seed of the parasite that is seeking to consume your life.

Hold onto your hope...

And take action.
