The Opposing Nature Of Timing

Understanding How To Navigate It Successfully

They Say that Timing is Everything...

But what Does that Even Mean?

When we Begin to Look at what We Say as a Society when it Comes to Timing...

Well...

It can be Confusing.

For Instance...

There are some Phrases...

You’ll Never Be Ready...

The First Step is the Most Important...

Now is the Time...

These are all forms of Encouragement to Speed Forward, especially when You are in Doubt.

Yet at the Same Time, there are Other Phrases...

Patience is Key...

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait...

The Best Things in Life Take Time...

All of these Seem to Suggest that We Must Wait on the Proper Timing.

So...

Which is it?

Is Timing about Moving Now?

Or is Timing About Waiting for the Right Window?

What We are Encountering Here is What is Known As...

A False Dichotomy.

Timing is Not About Whether You Should Move or Not Move...

Rather, it is about Taking Action where You are Able...

While Simultaneously having Patience where You are Not Yet Able.

This is the Opposing Nature of Timing.

Timing can Never Be About All or Nothing.

If You are Always Waiting...

You will Struggle to Be Seen or Get the Experience Needed to Succeed.

If You are Always Pushing Forward...

You will Find Yourself Struggling in Many Ways...

Biting Off More than You’re Ready to Chew...

Hitting Burnout Quickly...

Trying to Shoulder Everything Yourself when Others are Needed...

Being Blacklisted because You Lacked the Skill or Experience Needed to Do Something You Agreed to Do.

I have Watched People Struggle on Both Ends of This Spectrum.

Yes, Timing is Everything...

But there are Layers to Timing that are Occurring Simultaneously and Overlapping with Each Other.

You have to Move and Be Patient Simultaneously.

You have to have Confidence in Yourself and Understand Your Limitations Simultaneously.

You Must Always be Ready to Move while Knowing You will Never Be Ready because You Lack Experience.

Moving at the Wrong Time can be Costly, but Not Moving is also Costly.

Do You See the Challenge that this Presents to Us?

All of these Sound like Opposites...

Yet are All True and Necessary to Understand for Moving Forward at a Strong Pace.

It is No Wonder Why So Many get Timing Wrong...

To Find the Right Mix of Forging Ahead and Patience is Tricky when You are Stuck in a World of Absolutes.

The Sprinter Collapses Long Before the Goal...

But the Stander Never Moves Toward the Goal.

Neither Extreme Works or is Ideal...

Yet these are the Extremes that Most People Attempt to Operate In...

Causing their Inevitable Demise.

The Thing About Timing...

Is that You Cannot Wait Forever to Act, and You Do Need to Take Steps towards Your Goals if You Ever Hope to Obtain Them...

And...

You Need to Crawl before You Walk, and Walk before You Sprint...

Grow in Your Abilities and Discover How to Utilize Your Talents and Abilities in Meaningful Ways...

While Being Patient for the Right Opportunities to Present Themselves when You are Nearly Ready to Handle Them.

Flow States, where We Operate at Our Best, occur when a Challenge is about 4% More Difficult than Our Current Skill Level.

So, a Challenge Does Need to be Larger than Ourselves to Activate Our Best...

Yet Not So Difficult that We Break in the Process.

But if We are Not Actively Rasing Our Current Skill Level...

Then Our Goals Will Always Remain Outside of Our Reach.

Being Able to Find, Know, and Navigate this Area Between Challenges and Our Current Skills is How You Determine the Right Timing.

That is How You Begin to Navigate the Seemingly Opposing Nature of Timing.
