The Hardest Part About Running Multiple Large Projects
What Peak Performers Must Do Even When They Do Not Want To
I'm going to be Honest...
Today, I'm Struggling.
Tremendously.
I've been Working Hard in the Background on some Projects that are Extremely Important to Me.
Things Which will Open New Avenues for Incredible Change.
They have Been Taking Up a Lot of Time...
And Energy...
And in some Ways are Also Stressful.
All Good Things in Life Require Some Level of Stress, so this is to be Expected.
Exactly as Things Should Be.
I would Not Change the Things that I am Working Toward Today.
However, these Projects are Not My Only Project.
As You Push Toward Larger Goals in Life, You will be Faced with Multiple Projects Happening Simultaneously.
It is Inevitable.
But there is Something that Most Peak Performers Struggle Tremendously with when they are Faced with Multiple Projects.
It is Known as Counter-Balancing.
In Life, You have to Dedicate a Certain Amount of Energy and Time to Things to Accomplish Certain Projects...
But, Different Projects will Require Extra Time at Certain Points...
Significantly More Time.
To Push those Projects to High Levels of Success...
You Must Spend an Inordinate Amount of Time on Them...
To the Detriment of Time on Other Projects.
Now, If You're Going to Do Multiple Projects Simultaneously "And" at a High Level...
It will Require you to Sometimes Sacrifice Time on One Project and Spend an Inordinate Amount of Time on Another...
Then "Counter-Balance" and Sacrifice Time on a Different Project and an Inordinate Amount of Time on What You had Previously Sacrificed.
This is the Idea of Counter-Balancing...
You Lean a "Little" Far in One Direction...
Then Must Counter and Lean a "Little" Far in the Other Direction.
The Challenge for Peak Performers is Getting this Right.
Most People Fail in One of Two Ways...
The First is to Sacrifice "Too Much" Time on One Project...
While Other Projects begin to Completely Fail.
If You Never Counter "Back" to Projects...
They Will Fail.
Maybe Not Immediately...
But if You Never Spend Time on Them...
They will Begin to Diminish...
Until Eventually they are Completely Gone.
This is Known as "Hyper-Focusing" on a Project to the Detriment of Everything Else.
The Other Way People Fail is that they Attempt to "Balance" their Time Between Projects.
If I Spend an "Equal" Amount of Time on Everything...
Then the Idea is that Progress is Made on All of the Projects.
The Issue However is the Quality of the Projects.
When You Spend Equal Time on All Projects...
All Projects will End Up Mediocre.
Half-Efforts Do Not Win in Life.
Deep Dedication Does Win.
But if You Evenly Spread Time, then You Simply have a Lot of Mediocre Projects...
Where None of them Succeed.
You Waste a Lot of Time and Energy to Accomplish Sub-Par Results which Never Move the Needle in the Direction that You Hope.
The Challenge is to Learn...
When Must You Go "All-In" on Something...
And When Must You "Let-Up" on Another Thing...
Before Figuring Out How to "Counter-Balance" in the Different Directions.
It is Not an Easy Thing, and there is No Such Thing as a "One-Size-Fits-All" Solution to This Challenge.
Sometimes, Projects Seem Easy...
Until they Are Not.
Other Times Projects Feel Incredibly Difficult...
Until We Break them Down and See that Aspects are Not as Intense as We Originally Believed.
Then, within All of this...
Is Your Overall Levels of Energy (Mg-ATP).
Sometimes, When You Go "All-In"...
You are Left with Little Energy.
You're Tired...
You're Exhausted...
Giving More is Difficult...
And Sometimes You Must Give More Anyways.
Which is Where I Currently Am Now.
I Sat Down to Write...
And it was an Intense Struggle to Even Begin with a Single Letter...
Even though I have Written Over 900 Daily Articles in a Row Now...
I Still have Days like Today where I Struggle.
I have Pushed Myself into Other Projects...
Then I Come to Sit Down to Write...
And It takes Every Ounce of What is Left to Just Come Up with an Idea.
Yet...
Sometimes, by Pushing Yourself just a "Little" Bit...
Suddenly You Find a Secret Reserve of Potential that is "Just Enough" to Keep the Counter-Balance Going.
That is What I'm Relying On Tonight...
Just the Reserve...
Just Enough to Keep this Project Going Forward...
To Reach the Goal of 1,000 Days of Daily Articles in a Row...
Today May Not be My "Best" Article...
What makes a "Best" Article is Subjective Anyhow, and Many of the Articles that I Considered "Masterpieces" have been Forgotten By Most...
And Sometimes an Article like this Somehow Strikes a Chord that I Never Intended...
Which is Part of the Power of Making Sure to Counter-Balance.
Often, by Continuing the Momentum...
Even Just Slightly...
You Unlock More with Less without Realizing It...
Where the Constraints Drive Us toward Something We Never Knew Existed within Us...
While Still Giving the Necessary Efforts to Accomplish Great Goals where it is Absolutely Needed.
It is Incredibly Difficult to Counter-Balance on Some Days...
Especially when the Projects You're Working On are Incredibly Meaningful to You.
Yet, it is in the Counter-Balancing where We can Discover Our Grit...
Our Commitment...
Our Deepest Desires...
Our Darkest Demons...
And Our Full Potential.
Our Mettle is Tested on the Battleground of Seeking to Accomplish Amazing Things...
Most People will Give Up and Quit on Most Endeavors...
They Do Not Learn How to Counter-Balance, and it Tears Them Apart as They Fail...
But they Only Fail because they Gave Up Completely.
What is Perhaps Most Interesting is that Large Projects often have Multiple Opportunities to Grow and Succeed...
But Only if We Stick with Them Long Enough to See and Understand When the Counter-Balance Offers the Best Opportunities.
If We Fall...
All We Must Do is Stand Back Up and Try Again...
Until We Begin to Understand the Feel of the Ebbs and Flows of Projects and can Master the Counter-Balance Between Them.
It is Incredibly Difficult, Yes...
All Who Try Will Struggle...
But it is Worth the Challenge.
