The Factor Most People Miss When Considering Emotional And Cognitive Intelligence (EQ/EI and IQ)
The Lost VQ Difference
Written by a human, for humans, always.
Many people discuss the importance of different types of intelligence.
Cognitive Intelligence, or IQ, has been something we have scored and tried to understand and correlate with success for decades...
Not always for good purposes.
Emotional Intelligence, or EQ or EI depending on who is writing, has been something focused on in many business circles for decades as well...
With equally strong claims about its ability to determine success.
Over the years...
People have argued that these stand as the most important factors of our success.
Different people frequently argue which is more important...
IQ or EQ/EI...
Often with outdated information or misinformation on the subjects.
Some believe that the greater ability to understand and solve problems...
Having access to a greater breadth of knowledge more quickly...
And to find unnoticed patterns in information...
Is the key to success.
Others believe that it is through better connection...
Through understanding others at a higher level...
And being able to unify and coordinate greater numbers of people together...
Is the key to success.
The truth of it...
Is that both are important...
Incredibly important.
However...
The reality is that most people fail to understand either...
This coming from someone who is a member of MENSA (Testing Top 2% of IQ worldwide) and is in the Top 1% of EQ (Based on the MEIQ-R9 Test).
Why?
There is actually a factor which underpins both IQ and EQ/EI...
That when it drops...
So do both IQ and EQ/EI at a statistically significant level...
And when it rises...
So do both IQ and EQ/EI at a statistically significant level.
How much?
Enough to push people into a new “standard deviation”, aka percentile group.
What is the factor?
VQ or Vitality Intelligence...
Understanding how our bodies, as humans, function...
And taking care of our bodies so that we can utilize our facilities to their greatest.
We can start with something simple...
Nutrients.
Have you ever heard of the phrase, “hangry”?
It is the idea that we become more irritated when we are hungry...
Even to the point of becoming belligerently angry!
What is happening at the psychophysiological level?
Our cells need to create a certain amount of energy (Mg-ATP) to do daily functioning...
And when our cells are not doing that...
It creates problems...
Especially for our brains, which consume a lot of energy (Mg-ATP).
Fewer neurochemicals are produced...
Attention and focus begin to demand that we move toward survival mechanisms...
Anything that gets in the way of survival becomes a potential threat...
And we treat those aspects of life as such...
Even if it is an innocent bystander who has good intentions.
The result...
Because we do not have enough energy (Mg-ATP)...
Our VQ declines...
As does both our IQ and EQ/EI.
Now, that is just looking at “one” factor of nutrients.
Just looking at the nutrients aspect of VQ alone...
There are a number of other factors that create problems...
Without even beginning to consider any of the other factors involved in VQ.
What are some of the other factors of VQ at play?
Water intake and quality.
State of the nervous system.
Identity depth and stability.
Total stress levels and stress threshold.
Flow proneness, capacity, and consistency.
Gut microbiome health.
Movement levels and capacity.
Environmental factors, including other humans and their VQ status.
Toxin load and elimination capacity.
Again...
All of these VQ factors...
Have both direct and indirect impacts on IQ and EQ/EI...
And are vastly more complex than the general label that I have established here.
If you are unaware of the status of these different aspects of VQ in your own life...
As is true for the vast majority of people...
The reality is that your IQ and EQ/EI are likely significantly lower than what is attainable for you.
What I have found for most people that I work with...
Is that when we work on specific areas of their VQ...
Their IQ and EQ/EI naturally rise without necessarily needing to focus on them.
Plus...
When you do work on IQ and EQ/EI specific work to develop them...
They are learned and retained much more quickly.
Are IQ and EQ/EI important to success?
Absolutely.
But to truly reach your own heights in them...
You need a strong VQ to support all of your efforts.
If your VQ is low...
It will absolutely undermine all of your efforts in life that require IQ and EQ/EI.
This is also a large part of the reason why so many programs that work on these...
Whether it is classroom instruction to teach new skills...
Leadership courses to develop your capacity to lead...
Or emotional intelligence courses designed to help you handle the emotions of yourself and others with greater ease...
Usually fail.
Most people in today’s world are not at a VQ level in their lives to effectively learn and develop these aspects of their lives...
And even when they are working hard to do so...
Often get little to no return for all of their effort (and money).
Not to mention...
That many programs that look at factors of performance health...
Such as Burnout...
Fail to address most of the aspects of VQ...
That they really do little in the long term...
Often only providing momentary relief, which then collapses either back to where they were previously...
Or to a worse state.
VQ is so vitally important to living at our human potential...
What I call Hyper-Human...
But so few people really understand how they are designed as humans.
When you understand how you are designed...
Suddenly there is so much more that you become capable of...
Which usually surprises people.
We have such a small view of ourselves and what is possible...
Because we as humans are really only using so little of what is available to us...
While simultaneously using that little at such a low quality...
That it is no surprise we give ourselves so little credit.
But...
When we understand and optimize VQ...
The entire realm of possibilities within our lives drastically changes.
