The Devastation Of Failure
One Of Life's Guarantees And What To Do About It
The Devastation Of Failure
One Of Life’s Guarantees And What To Do About It
Written by a human, for humans, always.
No need to sugarcoat it...
To treat you like a child who is not ready for the truth...
To pretend like you or I are going to be magically exempt...
Only to be devastated by reality.
You will fail.
I will fail.
At some point...
Today...
Tomorrow...
Eventually...
We will fail.
We try to run from it.
Act like we are somehow immune to it.
But eventually...
We will be struck by the devastation of failure.
What makes it even more difficult for us to accept when it comes to failure...
Is that it may not be our own fault.
People can...
And do...
Absolutely fail...
Every single day...
By no fault of their own.
Through circumstances that no one could have predicted.
By factors that we never could have been aware of.
By decisions others made that we had absolutely no say in.
Some failures, of course, are all our own fault...
We should accept the role we do play in our failures...
But it is possible to fail by no fault of our own.
What are we supposed to do with that?
When the devastation crashes down upon us and pierces us down to our very soul...
What do we do?
The answer is both more simple...
And more difficult...
Than we understand.
Whatever we can.
Whatever is in our power.
The failure will still be there...
It may hurt terribly and awfully...
You may feel like it is unfair or unearned...
Questions may begin to encircle you, wondering if all the effort was deserving of this...
Be wary here...
For the mind can become your worst enemy in the devastation of failure.
If you allow it...
The mind will constantly focus and provide answers around our failures...
It can enbitter us, anger us, drive us insane...
Causing us to become trapped in an endless cycle...
A trap of our own making.
Do not allow that to happen.
It is alright to feel pain and every other emotion that may come with the failure...
But do not allow the emotions to control your thoughts...
Do not determine your actions based on how you feel...
For inevitably...
Those are all traps to become stuck in our failures.
Instead...
Begin to move to whatever you are able to that is next.
I cannot define what that is.
I cannot tell you how painful it will be to continue to move...
I cannot make a promise that the failure will lessen in pain anytime soon.
All I can promise...
Is that if you do not figure out how to begin to move forward...
You become more and more likely to never move forward.
Habits begin to form...
No matter which way you decide to move.
What habit do you want to form?
Which habit will you allow your body to begin to optimize toward?
Do you want the habit of consuming your mind around the failures that have occurred...
Unable to move...
Paralyzed in the devastation of the failure?
Or do you want the habit of beginning to move to something...
Even when difficult or feeling impossible...
While the emotions are still being felt...
Getting to your feet and at least starting...
Obtaining help from whoever and wherever is necessary so that you do not become consumed by the failures?
No...
The failures that are inevitable will not be easy...
They often are horribly painful...
But they do not need to define you.
You have the capacity to move forward...
Slowly...
Quickly...
In pain...
In healing...
Into the unknown...
Until something is known...
But always forward nevertheless.
What you will also find...
Is that when you do decide to move forward...
Despite the failures that occur...
You will eventually discover that there is something more...
Something different...
Even something better...
But it will only be discovered...
If you choose to move.
