Rigging The Game Of Life Against Ourselves
How We Unintentionally Create A Losing Life
Written by a human, for humans, always.
Do you enjoy playing games?
Most people do like some sort of game.
What is true of every game?
They have rules.
Now, let me ask you a question...
Have you ever played a game where the rules to win were incredibly difficult...
While the rules to lose were incredibly effortless?
What happens?
Well...
You lose...
A lot.
And every time you lose, you probably also dislike the game more and more...
Because as humans...
We enjoy winning...
While avoiding losing as often as possible.
But what if I told you...
That you played a game like this every single day...
Which you actually designed...
Likely without realizing it.
That game...
Is called life.
What most people do not realize in their lives...
Is that as we act in our lives...
We create rules for ourselves for what it means to succeed...
As well as what it means to lose.
Let me ask you two more questions...
What would you need to do in order to feel like you were successful in life?
Then...
What would or is currently making you feel like you’re doing poorly?
It might help to write this down...
Have you done it?
Now watch this...
Are the conditions to succeed something that takes a lot of time?
That you may not be able to accomplish in a week, month, or even a year?
Does it require a lot of difficult work to reach what you have called success?
At the same time...
How easy is it for you to feel like you are doing poorly?
Is it something that you feel daily?
Perhaps even multiple times a day?
Would one tiny moment cause you to feel like you are doing poorly?
For most people...
They will see that to feel like they are succeeding requires a ton of incredible effort...
And what causes them to feel like they are losing might happen at any moment...
And may even be completely outside of their control.
Let me ask you...
If those are the type of rules you are currently living your life around...
How is your life going to feel?
Probably terrible.
You’re going to be losing, by the rules you currently hold, all the time...
And to win probably feels like it is so far away...
Potentially even impossible to attain.
What does this do to us at a psychophysiological level?
Well...
If pursuing what makes us feel successful causes us to lose frequently...
A few things may happen...
But all of which end up causing us to lose.
We might try to make progress...
But in order to lose less often, we tiptoe around life doing everything not to trigger a loss...
Which is a really slow process, making success look further away than it needs to be.
Or...
We may avoid the goal completely because we do not want to lose...
Perhaps having tried to move toward it in the past, but failing so frequently that we decided the effort was not worth it.
Do you want to know what makes all of this worse?
The conditions we create to determine ourselves to be successful...
Are usually designed by us...
Yet simultaneously...
The conditions and rules we have to lose, we have no idea where they came from...
Why?
Because those rules are usually subconscious...
Having been designed without our conscious mind being aware...
But causing us to self-sabotage ourselves unintentionally all along the way.
Without realizing it...
We have rigged the game of life against ourselves...
Subconsciously.
So the question we need to begin to ask ourselves...
Is what can we do now?
Here is what most people do not realize...
We have the ability to define and redefine the rules of our lives.
We might be striving for a gigantic goal, and I encourage you to...
But you can have many different successes along the way.
I personally have multiple rules for success that I am able to accomplish every single day...
Which, by doing them, continue to drive me toward the larger goals of my life.
Are the rules you have allowing you to win multiple times every single day?
At the same time...
We can take the subconscious rules for failure that we have unintentionally created...
And decide that they are no longer the benchmark for failure.
Think of it like this...
If you succeed 99% of the time and miss the mark 1% of the time...
You’re still getting an A+ in life...
But so many people have defined the 1% as the benchmark for failure.
That is how you make yourself miserable...
Keep yourself small...
And struggle to grow in life.
Instead...
Redefine failure.
Do not accept 1% as being a complete and total failure when you’re succeeding 99% of the time...
Especially if you have redefined your merits of success to make winning simpler!
Instead, give yourself the grace to still be successful even if you fail 40% of the time...
The school system still considers a D a passing grade...
Why don’t you?
But here is the thing...
Most people are already achieving “way” about a 60% success rate in their lives if they have intentionally created fair rules for their lives.
The majority of people I have met are easily doing 80% or better in their lives...
Which means if they are designing rules that are more fair...
Means they rarely actually lose...
Because they are constantly higher than 60% by a significant amount.
What happens when you redefine the rules of life like this?
Life becomes vastly more enjoyable!
You are not so concerned about the occasional failures that you have.
I can tell you from my own life that I fail at least 100 times a day “just” in my writing...
But I still write and publish an article every day, which is my measure of success for writing...
And my measure of failure is not thinking about writing, which I have not done once since I began my journey of writing and publishing articles daily.
When we redefine the rules of our lives...
The game of life becomes vastly more enjoyable to play.
We attain success constantly...
And the “failures” that used to stop us dead in our tracks feel like they are of no consequence anymore...
Meaning you become more eager to play the game and win more...
You become more engaged in life...
And the natural consequence is that you end up attaining far more than you imagined possible.
Have you rigged the game of life against yourself?
Most have...
But the good news is that you can redefine the rules in your favor...
To design a winning life.
