Overcoming Societal Blind Spots
When You Should Question What You're Told
For a Society to Function, and Any Organization as a Whole, we must Unite Together on Ideas and Beliefs.
However...
This is Not Always without its Flaws.
Just because We Choose to Accept an Idea or Belief at a Period of Time...
Does Not Necessarily make it Right or True.
These can Quickly Become Societal Blind Spots.
These Impact Us on Many Levels.
Governmentally.
Business.
Even in Scientific Communities.
We have a Tendency to Accept Ideas and Beliefs as they are Given to Us.
Often, We are Told and Taught that the Ideas and Beliefs are Correct...
That they have been Proven...
As Valuable...
And Perhaps there is Value that has been Gained...
But Sometimes, We Accept Ideas and Beliefs...
Then, Discover that they are in Fact Not True.
This can become Even More Difficult when We are Told that Something has been Considered True for Hundreds...
Or Even Thousands...
Of Years without Anyone Questioning Them.
But this Creates Gigantic Problems.
For Instance...
If Our Society Builds a System of Science Off of something that is False...
What would the Result Be?
In the Long Term, We would See Methods Developed that Do Not Work...
That Seem to Accomplish Little to Nothing...
Or in Some Cases, We Would See Negative Results.
Instead of Progress...
We would See a Decline.
Things would Get Worse.
Instead of Innovation and Growth..
We Find Stagnation or Decay.
I See this Frequently in Today's World in Many Industries.
Such as in Tech and Health.
But there is an Extremely Easy Way to Tell when You're Discovering a Societal Blind Spot...
Unanswered Questions.
Whether it is You or Others who are Asking Questions that the Authorities of an Industry Do Not Answer...
Especially when they are Either Uninterested in Answering the Question...
Are Unconcerned that they Cannot Answer the Question...
Or Blatantly Fight Against the Question without Being Able to Provide Anything Convincing or Logical to Support their Stance.
Now, this Does Not "Immediately" Mean you Should Reject the Societal Stance...
But it Does Mean that it is Perhaps Wise to Investigate the Questions More Closely.
Sometimes, Information is Difficult to Find...
But other times...
The Reason that the Questions Go Unanswered...
Is Because there are No Answers.
The Question has Discovered a Flaw or Hole in what Everyone Simply "Assumes" to be True...
But Is Not.
This was what I Discovered in the World of "Leadership Development" when I began to See Statistics such as...
80% of Leadership Development Completely Fails...
With "Limited" Success the Remainder of the Time.
When I began to Ask "Why" the Success Rates were So Low...
I Could Not Discover Answers.
People would simply give me some version of the Response...
"But it Does Work!"
What I would Discover is that the Leadership Development World uses Limited "Tests" at the End of Trainings to "Prove" Success...
Without Anything Getting "Applied" after the Training.
But when You Looked at Longer Research and what Occurred "After" the Initial Excitement of Learning Something New...
You Discovered there Was Rarely Success.
The Challenge was that...
Often with Extremely Good-Hearted and Well-Intentioned Individuals...
No One Bothered to Really Look in the Long-Term Consequences and Impacts of Leadership Development.
They Heard that it "Worked", and that it had been "Proven"...
But Failed to Verify the Strength of the Research Done on the Methods...
Which were Very Weak...
Especially in the Long Term.
But Versions of this Experience Exist in Most Industries.
Ever since I began to Delve Deeper into Psychophysiology, I See the Same Problems.
People often Claim the Benefits of "This" Supplement or "That" Approach...
But when You Look More Closely...
Everything Unravels rather Quickly.
One Hole Reveals Another Hole...
Until the Only Logical Response is to Realize that You have Discovered a Societal Blind Spot.
But then it becomes Difficult...
Because When You Discover a Societal Blind Spot...
The Question Becomes What Do You Do About It?
This becomes the Groundwork from which Sageship can be Cultivated.
