One Secret Of Emotional Intelligence Most People Miss
It Is So Simple Yet So Powerful When Taken Seriously
Written by a human, for humans, always.
Most people struggle with their emotions.
They burst out when they do not want to.
They miss cues that should appear to be obvious.
Through it all...
We forget something that is very simple...
Which, if we take seriously...
Allows us to navigate emotions more easily.
What is the thing we miss?
We are human.
Now, that may sound funny...
But so often...
People try to make themselves as things above humans...
And in the process...
They end up failing to account for their real humanness.
Let me give you a really simple example.
As a human...
You are going to have good days and bad days.
Days where your energy is high...
Others, when it is low.
Moments where our stress is immense...
And when it is easier to manage.
But...
If you do not take these into account...
You will act “as if” certain things are not true about yourself...
And that is the moment...
When you will slip on your emotional intelligence.
See...
When we are not paying attention to where we are in reality at a given moment...
We miss other cues.
If we are tired...
We are more likely to become annoyed or distracted.
But what is fascinating...
Is that when we are aware of these aspects of our humanness...
When we take into account that we are tired...
Or we are stressed...
Or whatever other state we enter into that is normal as a human...
That awareness actually allows our minds to subconsciously prepare for scenarios...
Making it easier to overcome.
The simple awareness of our humanness in any given moment...
Directly leads to increases in emotional intelligence.
It seems so simple...
But the truth is that this is something we so often take for granted...
Or worse...
Attempt to deny delusionally.
We like to pretend we are super-human (better than human), supra-human (above human), or even deific or god-like...
And in these delusional concepts of ourselves...
We end up becoming hyper-human (extra human), where we end up far more likely to fall into our humanness.
In not being serious about our humanness...
We end up unaware of the pitfalls of our humanness...
And fall into it more frequently...
And harshly.
The leader who believes he is “above” his subordinates...
Needing to “prove” themselves...
Or afraid that others will “see” that humanness...
Ends up decreasing their emotional intelligence...
And comes off worse as a result.
Still human.
It is something that we cannot escape, even when we try.
But...
Just bringing our awareness to it...
Allows us to see things more clearly.
When we are tired...
Or when we are experiencing extreme stress...
We gain a better understanding of what types of things will push us lower...
And simply knowing that...
Allows us to see things coming and make better decisions.
We can do things like walk away from a situation if you believe it is not going to end well...
Or reschedule things so that you can come with the right mindset...
Plus you can do things...
Like, see when you are stressed about something else...
Understanding that a new problem brought to you is “not” the real problem you are stressed about...
So that you do not blow up in the moment and overreact to something poorly.
This also allows us to understand another aspect of emotional intelligence...
That if we are prone to our own humanness...
So is everyone else.
If you see that someone appears to be off of their normal...
You can approach the situation keeping in mind that they are human too.
They are susceptible to it just as much as you.
This simple secret really provides a lot of options for understanding the world around us better...
And opens us up to navigating the world with greater ease.
