Mid-Year Review

How Are You Doing?

Today is the First Day of the Second Half of the Year...

How's Your Year Going So Far?

If You're Like Most People...

The Answer is Bad.

Now I Do Not Say that to be Cynical or to Rub it in Anyone's Face...

It is just the Sad Reality for Most People.

In January, People Come Hard for the Goals that they Set for Themselves.

Many Quit in the First Two Weeks.

By Mid-Year...

Now...

Around 80% of People have Failed on their Goals.

Between Now and the End of the Year...

Over 50% of those Remaining Will Quit.

This is Not Meant to Scare You or Make You Feel Bad if You are Currently Struggling...

Or if You've Already Quit.

That is the Norm.

There are a Large Variety of Reasons to Quit as Well...

Not All Reasons are Bad Either...

Especially in a World that is Filled with So Much Misinformation that Circulates Our Lives.

But there are Two Things We have to Think About when We Reach the Mid-Year...

First is that to Fail is to Be Human.

We All Fail.

I Do Too.

But Our Failures Do Not Need to Define Us.

We can Always Get Back Up...

Start Anew...

Redefine the New Path Forward.

Which Brings me to the Second Point...

It is Only Mid-Year.

A Lot Can Happen in Six Months.

Which We Still Have.

Did You Fail?

That is Ok.

It Happens.

But You have a Whole Second Half Now to Make a Comeback.

Many of the Greatest Accomplishments that People have had Occurred in their "Second-Halves".

In Sports they Call them "Mid-Game Adjustments."

Right Now is Your Time for Any Mid-Game Adjustments that You May Need.

Sometimes they are Needed.

Perhaps there are New Life Circumstances that You Could Never have Prepared for at the Beginning of the Year.

Perhaps You've had New Opportunities that You Did Not Know Existed Before this Second Half (This is Me as of Four Days Ago).

Perhaps there was a Barrier that You Did Not Suspect or Know About, but which is Know Painfully Clear.

For All of these Reasons, and Many More, a Mid-Year Adjustment can become a Powerful Tool.

You Do Not Need to Let the Whole Year Go to Waste because of a Few Bad Months.

At Any Moment that We Choose...

Right Now if You are So Bold...

We have the Power to Redefine How We Approach Life.

Will Life Suddenly Become Easier if We Redefine Our Approach?

No.

But Life will have Struggle No Matter What You Decide.

There is the Struggle of Growth and Cultivation...

The Pressure of the Seed Buried under the Earth...

The Need to Break Through the Soil...

The Struggle to Remain as the Elements Blast Against Us...

Or...

There is the Struggle of Decay...

Seeing the Version of Ourselves We Could Become...

Continuously Move Away from Our Reach...

To Miss Opportunity After Opportunity...

To Watch as Our Bodies and Minds Break Down.

No Matter which Path We Choose...

There will be Struggle.

We of Course can Find Ways to Struggle Less...

Finding Good Teachers and Mentors...

Getting Coaches, Therapists, and Counselors Who Can See What We Miss...

Building Teams and Organizations to Share the Load.

But We Cannot Escape Struggle...

Either Struggle will Be Our Enemy as it Crushes Us into Nothing...

Or Struggle can Be Our Ally if We Struggle Into Growth and Cultivation.

We Can Choose Which Struggle We Will Have in Our Lives.

And the Mid-Year Adjustment is the Perfect Time to Decide to Change Direction or Re-Commit More Strongly.

But Before You Charge Head-First into this Second-Half of the Year...

Analyze the First Half.

What has Led You to This Moment Now?

Some of it May be Great...

But Other Parts May Have Gone Horribly Wrong.

Did you Commit to Working Out 10 Days a Week...

Only to Discover it was a Challenge to Find a Gym that was Reasonably Close?

Or Perhaps You Decided to Change Every Single Meal to a Diet of Finely Shredded Ice, Sauteed Slush, with a Side of Water...

Only to Become Starving and Give into Fast Food when you were Tired of Endless Cooking?

Maybe you Started a Gigantic Plan for Mass Change at Work or In Your Business that would Shatter the Very Foundations of the Heavens...

Only to Discover that You Lacked the Resources to Accomplish Your Big Hairy Audacious Goals?

Trust Me, I Hear these Types of Stories Constantly.

There are Reasons that Most People Fail to Attain their Goals...

And One of the Most Common is that their Goals were Impractical given the Current Restraints of Reality.

They Failed to Account for the Responsibilities they Had...

The Skills they Needed...

The Information they Did Not Have...

The Misinformation that Led them Astray.

The Practicality of Time that Exists and Which Things Take.

I Wish that We Could Fit 100 Hours into our 24 Hour Days Too...

But that Simply is Not How Life Works.

Before You Can Create a Great Mid-Year Adjustment...

You have to Analyze the Reality of What Occurred.

Some of the Factors which You have No Control Over.

You might have No Control Over the Rush Hour Traffic that turns the "15 Minute" Drive to the Gym into a 45 Minute Commute...

Or the Fact that Your Grocery Store Fails to have the One Food Item that You're Constantly Looking For...

Or the Ability to Expand Your Resources in the Way You Wish for Certain Projects.

Life Sometimes has Situations that are Less than Ideal...

But they are Situations We Must Work With or Around to Accomplish Our Goals.

If You Have Failed on Your Goals Up to this Point...

Know that it is Normal and Human to Fail.

I can Tell You that I Fail Constantly...

More than You'll Ever Know...

But Failure Can Become a Path Toward Growth "If" We Learn from those Failures.

If We Adjust and Discover New Paths and Possibilities.

Now is the Best Time to Stand Up and Keep Going.

You've Got This!

Often the Reason that People Struggle with a Mid-Year Review…

Is because they Ask the Wrong Questions.

The Quality of Your Questions will Determine the Quality of What You Receive.

For Instance…

Why Did I Fail?

Terrible Question.

It is Too Broad and Prevents You from Seeing Important Details.

To Demonstrate…

Why Did I Fail Going To The Gym Daily?

Your Answer will likely be something like…

I had a Difficult Time Getting to the Gym.

That Might be “True”, but Fails to Help You Understand What to Do About It.

Some Better Questions Might Be…

Is the Time I Wanted to Go to the Gym Feasible?

What Do I Do on the Days when I have to Work Overtime?

Is Getting to the Gym My Goal, Or Would Working Out at Home Help Me Accomplish My Goal?

Can You See the Difference in these Questions?

Now, for Today’s Paid Section, I’m going to Ask You a Few Questions…

Your Job is “Not” To Answer Them…

But Use these Questions to Develop “Better” Questions for Yourself and Your Particular Goals.

Let’s Dive In…
