Jumping The Process Of Your Growth
How It Will Destroy Your Potential
Jumping The Process Of Your Growth
How It Will Destroy Your Potential
Written by a human, for humans, always.
We live in a fast-paced world.
Everyone...
Everywhere...
All the time...
Are trying to speed...
Faster and faster...
To different goals...
To different results...
To get away from where they are.
I get it.
Some of us did not get started in good places in life.
Others of us are excited about the vision we see.
Not to mention the theoretical rewards that exist once we reach the destination...
Though the “rewards” are not always what we thought they would be.
It is not surprising that we want to get to that endpoint as fast as possible...
Especially...
When there are so many people...
All over the place...
Telling us all the time...
That it is both possible and absolutely amazing...
Though their “truthfulness” may be in question.
So it is understandable that we want to go quickly.
Here’s the caveat...
The process of growth...
Is a process...
And there can be some terrible consequences from attempting to jump the process...
Consequences which can...
And frequently do...
Destroy all of the potential we had.
What are some of the consequences?
One is in our desire to grow faster...
We may fail to develop the basics that are necessary to sustain higher levels of success.
As Bruce Lee said...
“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
Nearly every time...
The basics are actually essential for true success.
Without the basics...
Everything we do becomes ineffective.
Which leads us to another problem...
The challenge of our reputation.
If you fail to obtain the basics at a high level...
You will be ineffective.
You may “appear” to be greater than the basics...
But the fruit of your labor will eventually be revealed...
And you will be found ineffective.
The longer you go forward in that ineffectiveness...
The more that your reputation will become that of being ineffective.
Here is the challenge...
Once trust is lost...
It is difficult...
And often impossible...
To get it back.
If you become known as someone ineffective at what you do...
Your reputation will spread...
And that may become a problem you can never reverse.
I have watched people...
Who appeared to have great careers...
Become unable to ever work in their industry...
Because they ruined their reputation with their ineffectiveness...
Frequently...
Because they attempted to jump the process of their growth.
There are other problems we can create, however.
See...
Most people believe that growth is good...
And it can be...
But it is not always good.
Molds grow.
Weeds grow.
A broken bone improperly set can grow incorrectly.
Growth can be bad...
Especially when we fail to understand what actually needs to grow.
I have watched many business owners...
Believe that they needed to dedicate time, energy, and resources to grow in certain areas...
And because of that...
They ended up running themselves out of business.
What they focused on grew...
But what grew did not create real results.
It ultimately ended in failure.
I have also seen people rush to grow...
And in the process, they developed bad habits.
Once a habit is established...
It becomes difficult to overcome the habit.
The longer the habit is set in...
The more difficult it usually becomes.
In some cases...
The bad habits that had allowed someone to grow to one level...
Actually became the barrier to the next level.
This leads to the classic problem that many people fall into...
Where they incorrectly believe that if they just dedicate “more” time, energy, and resources, they will magically overcome their barrier.
They do not.
It just creates overgrowth in the problem area...
Until there is a collapse.
What many people fail to understand...
Is that to reach the highest levels of success...
You often need to do something different.
Instead of growth...
You actually need cultivation.
Controlling the growth in some areas...
Purposefully trimming or completely cutting out other areas...
So that the desired results can be obtained toward the long-term goals we have.
But when we are desperate to get to a result...
We often miss these problems...
And make them significantly worse in our lives.
The faster you try to go...
The harder it becomes to see these problems.
It is like pressing the gas pedal in a car.
As you go faster...
It becomes more difficult to see the land around you...
The words become harder to track...
You have less time to react to other drivers on the road...
And if you turn too quickly...
You crash your vehicle with horrible consequences.
This is essentially what happens when we try to jump the process of our growth.
We miss details that should have been red flags...
We make quick decisions out of desperation because we are not able to see clearly fast enough...
Situations change, and we attempt to change with them, but are unable to.
The result...
Is that we crash...
And that crash can be catastrophic.
Even if we had all the potential in the world...
If it has not been cultivated correctly...
If things have gotten out of control in ways we are unaware of...
If we are moving so quickly that we stop being able to see clearly...
Our potential stops mattering.
I have seen extremely talented people...
Great business ideas...
Goals that could have greatly improved the world...
All become destroyed...
Because people attempted to jump the process of their growth.
I have also watched people...
Destroy themselves in the process.
Burnout...
Cardiac arrest...
Even literal death...
Consequences of people who were trying to move faster than their physical bodies were capable of moving.
I understand...
That we want to reach the goals in our lives...
But is all the effort worth it...
If we destroy all of our potential in the process?
