I became an executive coach because I saw a problem...
There seemed to be this disconnect between leaders and their organizations.
And...
Over the years, it has gotten worse...
Way worse.
I’m not the only one who has noticed.
More and more people are starting to question and wonder...
Are CEO’s really this disconnected from reality?
Are they this completely blind?
There have been times over the past few years when I really questioned if certain leaders had any real qualifications to lead the organizations they lead.
The decisions they made...
The plans they pushed for...
The things they said...
Just made absolutely no sense.
The direction that these leaders were pushing their organizations into...
And the way they treated their teams...
Well, something just was not right.
Things have also been appearing to be getting worse...
Significantly worse.
Nothing has been adding up...
And the mayhem has been expanding to new levels.
But why?
What has been the cause of this growing...
Psychosis?
Then, I read an article that seems to make an interesting point...
What has recent research been showing in Tech...
With its new favorite gizmo?
Research has been talking about something called...
AI Psychosis.
This is where, based on its sycophantic design, AI creates a form of Psychosis in its users.
What are some of the side effects of AI Psychosis?
Delusions...
Disorganized Thinking...
Manic States...
Impaired Reality Testing...
Decreased Critical Thinking...
Overconfidence...
Metacognitive Blind Spots.
This is a list that is eerily similar to what we are seeing in many CEOs.
But does it align with AI use?
Well, here’s the thing...
Many CEOs were testing out the early versions of AI...
Years before the current hype around the technology...
And they have also been many of the individuals who have been pushing for more use of AI...
Talking about how “powerful” it is...
How it will replace many jobs...
Discussing how they have been utilizing it...
Long before there was research that actually looked at what any of the short-term...
Or long-term...
Consequences of AI use could be.
What we may be seeing...
Is a two-fold problem that is going on around this problem.
The first is that there may have been a real Pandora’s Box of AI consequences that Tech Superconsumers...
Especially CEO’s and other C-Suite Executives...
Unleashed upon themselves without realizing it.
Which began to cause them to become more and more disconnected from reality...
Fueled by the sycophantic nature of AI...
Causing them to have delusions of grandeur...
Perhaps to become Tony Stark...
Which was further fueled by some other factors that allowed the delusion to appear real.
This includes...
The growing success of their companies that had more to do with Category King/Queen Economics than any decisions they were making...
AI’s ability to find repeated trends, much like what consulting firms like McKinsey have used for years, to get answers to their problems...
And therefore become a “trusted” source of information for these CEOs’ needs, even if these same AI have not been able to replicate “other” jobs effectively...
The Cult of the CEO that had fueled their excessively egotistical and vainglorious perception of themselves...
Which again, had more to do with their Category Economics than anything they did...
But also caused others to mimic these same CEOs based on the Authority Bias...
Who were unaware of what was happening...
And to top it all off...
All of these individuals...
Surrounded themselves with Yes People...
And lived within Echo Chambers...
That were indeed causing them to become disconnected from reality...
And caused individuals to fall into Repetition Bias.
It is a perfect storm...
A true Pandora’s Box...
Of the consequences caused by a multitude of psychological biases and the worst aspects of human beings.
And the results?
Continued Pushes for AI...
With no seeming logic of the costs versus reward...
Both psychophysiologically and monitarily...
The spread of Group Burnout at unheard of rates...
Growing customer discontent...
And Leaders are not happy themselves.
Of course, they try to tell themselves that everything is alright...
That they have everything under control...
But deep down they know...
They are miserable...
Living in the Sunk-Cost Fallacy that continues to destroy them from the inside out.
If we are to turn things around...
We need to begin to look at the reality that is around us.
