I heard something really interesting recently...
Nvidia’s CEO said this...
“Intelligence is about to become a commodity.”
In other words...
He believes that intelligence is about to become worthless.
Which I understand where he’s coming from...
Nvidia is currently the supplier of AI Chips for over 80% of the market...
With AI companies accounting for up to 95% of Nvidia’s revenue...
Where the AI Market has been growing at an incredible rate...
And when it is not hallucinating, trained on bad data, given poor prompts, or another one of the many problems we have seen with AI...
It has been shown to be generally good at gathering information quickly and efficiently.
What the hope of AI companies...
And therefore, what Nvidia’s CEO is relying on for the vast majority of their revenue...
Is that AI will grow to a point where people will come to completely rely on it because it is significantly more intelligent...
So intelligent that “intelligence” will become worthless for humans to pursue.
This is the perspective that Nvidia’s CEO is coming from when he says this.
But...
Is this actually true?
Will intelligence become a commodity and therefore...
Worthless?
Well, here is the thing...
It depends.
What do you mean when you say “intelligence”?
The reality is that intelligence is not a singular thing.
Even when you look at the concept of measuring intelligence...
Usually called an IQ Test...
It actually is not measuring one thing.
What many people associate with IQ...
Having a fortress of knowledge stored within one’s brain...
That can be summoned forth at a moment’s notice...
Is really only one small piece of intelligence.
If that is the specific type of intelligence that we are looking at...
Then that tiny form of intelligence “is” losing value.
But here’s what is funny...
It’s been becoming more and more worthless for a long time...
A really long time.
How long?
Well, it started as far back as around 2100 BCE...
Over 4,000 years ago.
What happened way back then?
It was when one of the oldest known literary works was written...
The Epic of Gilgamesh.
Now, I know that may sound ridiculous...
How could the Epic of Gilgamesh be the beginning of the decline of “this” form of intelligence?
Wrong question.
It was not “what” was written that caused this form of intelligence to lose value...
It was the fact that it was “written”.
Paper and Writing were the beginning of the decline in the value of stored information as intelligence.
Now, there have been more necessary steps between then and now...
Literacy needed to spread widely...
The speed of information needed to increase...
The spread of information needed to occur...
Tech needed to be designed to allow us to gain access to all of that information quickly...
And AI is now coming, which will allow us to ask any question and get the information that we seek handed to us on a silver platter...
More or less.
There are still some incredibly important flaws and bugs that exist within AI that need to be addressed for this to actually become a reality...
And there have been growing doubts about how far AI companies will actually be able to take the technology...
Given the very clear limitations that we have been seeing over the past few years...
But the AI companies want us to believe that they will work it all out.
Here’s the reality at this time, though...
AI has “only” demonstrated that it has the capacity to make information storage and retrieval “worthless”...
But technology has been doing that to information storage and retrieval for millennia.
It is nothing new.
Before AI was Search Engines...
Before that were Encyclopedias.
This has been a trend that has been occurring for a long time.
There is another aspect to intelligence that is also important to consider...
Patterns.
This is where things begin to become interesting.
AI is very good at looking at information...
And discovering patterns within the data...
Better than many humans...
But it is more nuanced than this.
See, AI is really good at finding patterns...
In “known” data...
With “known” patterns.
When AI has both of these...
It definitely can excel our capabilities as humans.
But...
What AI is unable to do in any capacity at this time...
Is design “new” patterns...
With “unknown” data.
And this is actually one of the ways you test another aspect of intelligence...
Create patterns that an individual is unfamiliar with...
To determine if they can figure out the pattern.
The more complex patterns that one can figure out without having prior knowledge...
The more intelligent they are in that aspect of intelligence.
This is where the “perception” of AI begins to break with the reality of AI.
But it is only the beginning of the break.
For instance...
If we look at emotional intelligence...
This is another area where AI does not actually work very well...
For two reasons...
First, it is overreliant on “known” patterns of working through emotions...
But it doesn’t really understand when you have to go “off pattern” to get to deeper truths...
Nor does it actually “understand” emotions because AI does not have that capacity, yet it is essential for true Emotional Intelligence.
Second, is that AI is sychophantic by design...
But this is actually both extremely problematic and extremely manipulative when it comes to emotions and the processing and understanding of emotions.
With that...
We have only explored three types of intelligence...
But there are many more types of intelligence that exist.
What does this tell us?
What it means is that in reality...
AI is not going to make “intelligence” a commodity...
Nor will AI make “intelligence” worthless.
But here is where things become a game of 4D chess...
The AI companies know this...
But they are counting on two things from the majority of people.
They are first counting on the fact that “most” people do not actually understand what intelligence actually is...
Meaning that most people are clueless about what intelligence “means”, and therefore are unable to determine for themselves whether AI “is” or “is not” intelligent.
If the AI companies can demonstrate a “single” form of intelligence that is greater than most humans...
These companies understand that “most” people will “generalize” that to “all” intelligence, being none the wiser to the truth.
The second thing they are counting on is that people will then “treat” AI “as if” it is more intelligent than they are.
What will this do?
It will cause people to allow AI to think “for” them...
Because they “believe” that AI is “more intelligent” than they are...
Even though it is not true.
What does this do?
It simultaneously does two things...
The research has shown that people who rely on AI to think for them “do” begin to drop in intelligence...
Which then causes them to become “dependent” on AI to think “for” them because they have begun to lose the ability to think for themselves.
That is the game plan that AI companies have.
Creating dependency through addiction tactics...
The same formula that processed food companies, the pharmaceutical industry, and big tobacco have utilized to create higher profits.
And worse...
It is a reality that could happen...
Because most people do not understand the game that is being played...
And how they are being used as pawns.
The good news...
Is that if you understand what is happening...
You can avoid this fate.
“If” you use your intelligence.
