Time is such a Strange Thing.

We Measure Time and Expect it to be Perfectly Even...

Second to Second...

Hour to Hour...

Day to Day...

Yet, Simultaneously...

Time is Relative.

Two People can be Standing "Right" Next to Each Other...

Looking at the Same Star in the Same Night Sky...

At the Same Time...

But Seeing Completely Different Years of that Star's Life.

However, Time Becomes More Strange...

When You Focus Deeply on Improving Your Psychophysiology.

I've Dedicated Years of My Life to Understanding How Our Psychophysiology is Supposed to Work as Humans...

How to Maximize It...

How to Attain More in a Day...

How to Get Further Faster.

The Journey has been Incredible Over the Years...

I Still have So Much Further to Go as Well...

But Something Strange began to Happen as I Continued to Travel Down this Path...

Time Began to Change.

Dramatically.

I Used to Never have Enough Time.

It was a Struggle...

Where Life Felt like a Race that I was Always Losing.

I Could have Been Sprinting as Fast as a Cheetah...

And I Still would have Felt Like a Snail.

Time was Always Against Me in a Battle I Could Never Seem to Win.

But this has Changed...

Completely...

I have Discovered that the Speed of Time from a Human Perspective is Altered by Two Primary Factors...

The First is Total Stress.

I used to be in States of Dis-Stress, Constantly.

All the Time Worried...

Preparing for Worst Case Scenarios...

Struggling with Wondering if I was Doing the Right Thing...

Or if My Life was Being Wasted in Ways that I Would Never Recover From.

Constantly, I was in a State of Scarcity...

Always Concerned that I would Never have Enough.

Fight-or-Flight and Survival States at its Finest.

But the Issue with these...

Is that when we are in Constant Survival...

As is the Case in Burnout...

Our Threat Detection is Regularly Going Off...

Everything Begins to Look like a Potential Threat...

And Our Sense of Time Speeds Up.

The Body wants to "Escape" the "Dangers" as Quickly as Possible...

And Uniformly Alters Our Experience of these Dangers so that it "Feels" Faster and therefore, Psychologically, We Experience "Less" Time around these Dangers.

It is a Fascinating Trick of the Brain.

It is Great if Your Threat Detection is Infrequent and Rare...

But Quickly becomes Problematic when We are in Constant States of Dis-Stress.

We Begin to "Always" Feel like We are Behind "Because" Our Psychophysiology is Purposefully Attempting to "Speed" Up the Experience to "Escape".

You are Unable to "Catch Up"...

Because You're Always Attempting to "Escape".

There was Only One Type of Experience that would Allow Me to Slow Down the Feeling of Time Consistently...

Which is the Second Factor...

Flow States.

The Challenge for Me, however, was that I Only Experienced Flow States in Sports.

So, I would be Attempting to Escape Dis-Stress Most of My Days...

And Only Feel Time Slow when I Played a Sport.

See, Flow States begin to Optimize Our Performance in Whatever We are Attempting to Perform In.

In this Process, the Flow State will also Alter Our Perception of Time to Allow Us to Maximize Performance.

If it is Beneficial for Time to Feel Slower...

Suddenly Time Slows Down...

Some People even Experience Time in a form of Slow Motion...

Like the Movies, except in Real Life.

It is sometimes called Time Dilation.

I would Experience this form of Time Slow Down during Sports...

But for No Other Parts of My Life.

The Result?

I Performed Great in Sports...

But Felt Behind in Every Other Aspect of Life.

However...

This is Where the Experience of Time Really Began to Change...

When I Began to Study Psychophysiology...

I Both Lowered My Total Stressors in All Aspects of Life...

And...

I Increased the Areas of My Life where I Experienced Flow States.

The Result?

Time has Slowed Down in All of My Life...

Dramatically.

My WHOOP Band Regularly Tells Me that I Experience Less than 1 Hour of "High Stress" Per Day...

Some Days Reporting "0 Minutes" of High Stress.

Further, I Find Flow States when I Work with Clients...

When I Do Deep Research...

When I Write My Daily Articles...

When I Spend Time with My Spouse...

And, of course, whenever I Participate in Sports.

The Results?

Every Day Feels Incredibly Long.

What Would have Taken Years to Research and Understand in the Past...

Takes Months at the "Most" Now.

I Used to Struggle to Write Any Articles of Any Length in a Month...

Now I Write Complete Articles Daily, from Idea to Published, averaging somewhere around 800-900 Words Each...

Some Significantly Longer.

I'm able to Uncover and Help Clients with More in their Lives...

In Less Time.

I'm Able to Do So Much...

That it "Feels" Like Years Should have Gone By...

But it has Only Been a Few Months...

And what makes it More Strange is How Results Feel within Time.

There are Some Days when I am Wondering Why a Goal is Taking So Long to Achieve...

Only to Realize that No Time has actually Passed.

Perhaps it is Funny that I Still get Results Extremely Quickly by the World's Standards...

Despite the Fact that Results Feel so Incredibly Slow to Me.

There are Some Weeks...

As this Week has Been...

Where I Feel like it has Already Been a Month...

But it has Only Been Days.

I was having a Conversation with Someone the Other Day...

And they Asked Me How Old I was...

When I Told them, they were Amazed How I had Learned So Much about Psychophysiology...

And Been able to Explain it with Ease...

At what they Considered to be a Young Age.

That is the Kind of Stuff that Happens when You are Reading Four Different Doctoral-Level Textbooks at the Same Time for Different Contexts on Psychophysiology, as I'm currently Doing in My Life...

With the Aid of Flow States.

Here is What is Important to Understand...

We All Have, Roughly, the Same Amount of Time by the Standard Clock...

But...

Where We Become Vastly Different is through the Perception of Time based on our Psychophysiological States.

If You are in Constant Dis-Stress and Burnout...

You Will Always Feel like there is Never Enough Time.

Your Psychophysiology is Working Against You.

If You Fail to Get Into Flow States...

Your Performance will be Diminished from what is Possible.

But if You Keep Your Stressors at a Good Level...

And Constantly Find Flow States...

Suddenly, You Begin to Have More Time than You Know what to Do With!
