How Far Can You Go?
Why Most People Do Not Get Far
As Humans, we are Capable of So Much.
We have Inhabited every Ecosystem in the World.
We have Figured Out How to Travel to Space.
We Design the Future.
Yet...
So Few People Accomplish Much with their Lives.
Why is it that So Many of Us have the Ability to Do Amazing Things...
But It is Rarely Done?
It has to do with a Fundamental Gap Most People Psychologically Have when it comes to the Idea of Progress.
That Gap is the Power of Momentum.
Let's look at a Goal...
Let's Say a Goal to Run or Walk 100 Miles.
Not All At Once, just over some time...
Let's Say a Year.
How Would You Approach It?
Well, there are some people who would try to do it All at Once.
Jump Off the Couch...
And try to Run 100 Miles in One Day.
The Result?
They Break their Body, likely without Accomplishing the Goal.
Then, they will try to Recover on their Couch...
They will get Comfortable...
Then, the Year will Pass and the Entire Goal will be Forgotten.
But Perhaps You Believe that doing something more Manageable like...
10 Miles a Day will be Easier.
In Just 10 Days You'll have Run 100 Miles!
But, we Run into a New Problem Here.
Do You Know How Long It Takes to Run 10 Miles?
The Average Person can Run a Mile in about 10 Minutes...
Which means Each Day You'd have to Dedicate 1 Hour and 40 Minutes to Running...
But that is an Average Seed of People Running a Single Mile.
There is a Dramatic Difference in the Body's Processes that Must Go the Further You Go.
You might be able to keep the Pace for a Bit...
But Most People are Not Trained Well Enough to Know their Pace for Long Distances.
So, it is far more likely that it will take 2 to 3 Hours...
One the First Day.
If you are Not Used to Running that Distance, Your Body will be Extremely Sore after that.
The Second Day will be Far More Difficult.
By Day Three, Most People Give Up the Goal...
Either Due to Time Constraints because Few People can Run for 2+ Hours in a Day let alone More than that.
Or Due to Injury because They Did Not Recover Enough.
But the Result is Similar to the Previous Individual, and the Goal is Given Up.
However...
What if we Flip the Script?
What if You Only Do 1 Mile Per Day?
Just Walk It if You Want.
20 Minutes or Less in a Day for Most People.
At first, it Sounds like it will be Hopelessly Long.
In Fact, Most People Will Give Up Not because it is Difficult...
But because they Give Up on Themselves.
They Do Not Even Give Themselves a Real Chance.
Mostly because they Do Not Recognize their Own Potential.
Yet...
If You Give Yourself the Chance...
You Start Walking Each Day for 20 Minutes to Find that Mile.
Before you Know It...
Walking Becomes Jogging...
You're Only taking 15 Minutes...
Jogging Becomes Running...
You're Only Taking 10 Minutes...
You Build the Muscles to Move Faster...
Suddenly, You're Taking 8 Minutes.
Then, You Decide to run 2 Miles on Some Days...
It takes Less than 20 Minutes...
Before You Know It, You Feel Better because You're Moving Your Body.
Then, You Reach the End of the Year...
You've Gone Over 400 Miles in that Year.
Much Further than Your 100 Mile Goal.
It is Not Unreasonable.
According to my Garmin, I just passed 800 Miles over the past 358 Days...
Most Days I Run Only 1 or 2 Miles.
This is the Power of Momentum.
Most People think that Progress Happens Extremely Quickly...
But they Tend to Break Down Rather than Attain Anything of Significance.
Yet, if You Begin Small...
Allow Momentum to Build and Grow...
You will Go Significantly Further than You Think is Possible.
Step by Step.
Moment by Moment.
Until You Begin to Surpass Every Obstacle and Barrier like it Doesn't Exist.
