I was speaking with a Client, who is a Mid-Level Leader in an Organization, about a Challenge they were having in the Company they Worked For...
They were Overworked...
Overburdened...
On the Verge of Burnout.
Not a Great Place to Be.
Especially because, when We, as Humans, are in Burnout...
We Stop Being Effective.
How Ineffective Do We Become?
Based on the Research...
We Drop to 5% of Our Productivity Potential in Burnout.
My Client and I had Dicussed in a Previous Session a Way to Approach Their Leaders so that Everyone Could Win.
But Things Changed between Sessions.
My Client had Overheard Conversations and Came to an Understanding....
The Situation was Not Going to Change.
It Put them in a Position where they were Concerned about Even Speaking Up about the Need for Help.
It brought me to Ask this Question...
Have They Earned Your Loyalty?
Here's the Reality...
If You are in an Organization...
And You're Being Used to the Point where You're Moving into Burnout, or are Already There, as Over 80% of the Workforce Currently Sits...
But You Fear the Idea of Speaking About It to Your Leaders?
The Truth is that You're in a Toxic Workplace.
It May Not be the "Worst" Place to Work...
But it is Not Positive Either.
This is What I Know about the Vast Majority of the Workforce...
Most Leaders Do Not Show Loyalty to their Employees.
They are Ready to Fire People or Do Mass Layoffs with Little to No Thought.
They Do Not Care about Others' Mental Health or Physical Wellbeing.
They Are Not Willing to Grow or Change Their Ways.
These Leaders are in "Positions" of Power...
But they Demonstrate Poor Leadership.
They are Not Loyal to their Workforce.
What is the Result?
This is What I Told My Client...
If You Know they are Not Loyal to Them...
Why should You Dedicate Your Best to Them?
Why should You Sacrifice Your Health and Wellbeing if You Know they are Not Loyal to You?
If They Refuse to Sacrifice For You...
Why Should You Sacrifice for Them?
Have They Earned Your Loyalty?
I'm Not Advocating for Becoming a Terrible Employee or Committing Active Disengagement...
But the Questions Stand.
Loyalty Must Be Earned.
If You, as a Leader, Do Not Earn the Loyalty of Your Workforce...
You Should Expect them to be Disloyal to You...
Period.
Here is the Reality that Leaders Must Realize...
Leaders have More Power in the Dynamic with Employees...
The Responsibility of Creating Loyalty Lies with the Individual with Power.
If the Person with Power Does Not Put in the Effort to Earn Loyalty...
Then The Person with Power Should Expect Disloyalty.
Recognize This as Well...
If Your Workforce is Demonstrating Disloyalty...
You have Failed as a Leader to Earn Loyalty.
We See This All the Time in Today's Business World...
And it Makes Sense Why So Many Incredibly Talented People...
Are Failing to Make Meaningful Progress and Innovation in the World.
They are Reflecting How the Leader Runs the Organization...
If the Leader is Failing to Earn Loyalty...
The Workforce will be Disloyal.
All of the Workforce is Asking this Question...
Has the Leader Earned My Loyalty?
If the Answer is No...
They Will Not Give Their Best to that Organization...
Not in the Long Term...
And They Should Not.
If You have the Power of Leadership...
And Fail to Show Loyalty to the Workforce...
You are Acting as either a Dictator or a Tyrant....
And Disloyalty is the Only Option They Have for Their Health and Wellbeing.
For My Client...
I told them that They Must Look Out for Their Health and Wellbeing...
If their Leaders Refuse to Help Them...
They have No Reason to Be Loyal.
People Must Take Care of Themselves...
And They Should Never Sacrifice their Lives for People Who Demonstrate No Loyalty to Them.
Those Who Seek Sageship Also Cultivate Others!
