Finding The Time To Act
Understanding When To Use Tactical Patience
Sometimes, Taking Action is the Wrong Move.
There are Many Problems in the World, and I Know how Difficult it is to See Those Wrongs.
Day After Day.
Again and Again.
Sometimes, I see People who take Immediate Action.
They Begin to Start a Fight.
But so Frequently I See this Go Wrong.
Their Actions may be Half-Baked, making their Efforts Unimpactful.
Sometimes, it Instead Creates the Opposite Results of the Goals.
Turns People Against Them Rather than Gaining Others' Support.
Then, sometimes by Picking a Fight...
They Simply Cement People to their Previous Positions.
So frequently, I see People Lose Ground by Taking Action instead of Gaining Ground.
Their Hearts May be in the Right Place.
Their Goals May be Just.
But their Actions, at the Time they take Action, Undermines their Progress.
Why Does this Occur Though?
What Causes this Backtracking?
It is usually a Few Factors.
One Aspect is when people Miss Context.
They Pick Sides without Realizing what Sides Really Represent or Stand For.
When you Move without Understanding Context, you often Find Yourself Supporting Things Unwittingly.
This Missing Context also frequently Creates Gigantic Misunderstandings.
Which is only made significantly worse with the Next Challenge.
Taking Action without Ever Truly Understanding the Position of the "Other Side".
When people say things like, "I do not know how XYZ could ever support that..."
What they are Truly Saying is that they have Failed to Understand Others.
All People Take Actions for Reasons.
Period.
Sometimes those Actions Make Sense...
Sometimes those Actions are Justified...
Then Sometimes those Actions are Simply Uninformed.
Frequently, people make their Decisions Out of Fear.
But Fear of What?
If You Do Not Know...
Then You are Far More likely to make Enemies rather than Allies when you Take Action Yourself.
But there is One More Factor that I See Which is Frequently Missed.
Timing.
People Taking Action at the Wrong Time.
We so Frequently Believe that Action is the Ultimate Determiner of Success in Any Endeavor.
Action is Necessary, Yes...
But...
Action at the Wrong Time Often Becomes Failure.
One of the Most Powerful Tools at our Disposal...
That is Frequently Unutilized...
Is Tactical Delay.
Waiting.
Patience.
Often, the Greatest Action is No Action...
Not with the Goal of "Never" Acting...
But by Allowing Time to Reveal Truths to Others.
Parents make this Mistake Frequently.
They Push their Children to Follow Certain Ideas or Beliefs...
Shove those down the Children's Throats.
Then, what do the Children Do?
They Rebel against the Parent.
Do what the Parents Continuously Tell Them Not To.
When the Child Becomes Hurt...
Which is what the Parents wanted the Child to Avoid...
What Happens?
Usually, the Parent Digs Deeper and Chastises the Child.
"This is Why You Should Never Do That!"
"That Was So Stupid!"
"You're Grounded!"
The Result?
Instead of the Child Learning...
The Child Cements Themselves into Their Position Further.
They Ignore the Lesson of the Parent.
Rebel Harder.
What has Happened?
Instead of the Parent using Tactical Patience...
Taking time to Understand their Child's Positions and Reasoning...
They take Immediate Action.
Action that, Ultimately, Undermines their Goals.
But this is Not Just a Problem for Parents...
I See it within All Forms of Systems.
I See It in...
Politics.
Religion.
Media.
Business.
Technology.
Any Domain that you can Imagine, this happens All the Time.
People tend to Act without Tactical Patience far more frequently than is Wise.
Sometimes, the Fastest Path is the Path of Biding Our Time.
Waiting for Others to Make Certain Moves.
When you are Patient...
Sometimes, Brilliant Opportunities Present Themselves.
Until those Moments...
Sometimes it is More Beneficial to be Subtle and Skillful in how you Move Until the Right Opportunity Presents Itself for Total Action.
Be Wise.
Be Tactical.
Be Patient.

Often, we Move Too Quickly for our Own Good.

Action…
Missing Opportunities…
Further Action.
