Failing To Accept Freedom
Fourth Of July Message
Written by a human, for humans, always.
I live in the States, and today is the 250th birthday of freedom...
At least...
That is what the celebrations are for.
I believe in the States and what is possible for us...
Yet, simultaneously...
I look at the people...
And I believe that most do not actually understand what freedom is.
Why?
Truly, I tell you...
Most people are not free.
Not really.
Sure...
They have the ability to choose different paths in their lives...
Paths that do not exist in most of the rest of the world...
But what are the paths they choose?
Most people...
Choose slavery.
Even when given the choice and the opportunity...
They turn back to that which keeps them chained.
This is not a new phenomenon in humanity...
In the Bible, when the Israelites were freed from their slavery to Egypt...
They were given freedom...
And in their freedom...
They cried out to go back to Egypt and back into slavery.
When they re-established their land...
Many ended up, by choice, in slavery again...
So much so that there were two mandated periods - The Year of Release and The Year of Jubilee - where slaves were required to be freed...
Only for many of them to return to slavery.
We talk about freedom...
But most people do not see how they actually choose to become slaves in their lives...
Perhaps not to a human master...
But to a brutal and uncaring master, nevertheless.
We fail to see...
That with freedom...
We can and do use it to choose slavery.
An ironic twist.
That with all of the opportunities available to one...
They would still choose to become a victim.
Instead of steering their own lives...
They allow others to dictate what they are allowed to do and be.
Instead of working toward creating a better world...
They allow others to mandate what is acceptable.
You can be given freedom...
Yet choose to never be free in your life.
Designing your own cage.
In the States...
We have the ability to be free...
Which is not a choice that everyone has in the world today...
But will you actually live free?
Or will you continue to choose that which binds you and pulls you into the depths of the abyss?
Truly...
To have freedom is a gift...
Yet so many choose to be cursed.
They bring curses upon themselves...
Their families...
Their communities.
That are given freedom...
But choose to decline it.
They would rather continue to choose that which shackles their throats.
But...
Is that truly what they want?
The further irony is that...
They cry out that this is not what they truly want...
Their hearts and their souls cry out for freedom...
But as soon as they are given their freedom...
They ignore the call of their hearts and souls...
Going back...
Allowing themselves to be chained again.
It even becomes worse...
Because so many people will go completely out of their way...
To seek out what steals their freedom...
And if you even attempt to remove the forces that do this...
In their freedom, they will fight off those who would truly help them.
They use their freedom to choose to be captive creatures...
Then to embrace the potential of what they could become...
What they are internally desperate for.
Freedom.
Today we celebrate freedom...
But are you free?
