Do We Have The Idea Of Perfection Wrong?

A Different Perspective On That Which Seems Elusive

Everyone has a strange relationship with the idea of...

Perfection.

For some people...

It is that which they constantly strive for...

But which always stays elusive.

For others...

It is that which they fear to never attain...

So they self-sabotage themselves by never pursuing anything.

But no matter what your relationship with perfection is...

It is almost always not a healthy relationship.

Why is this, though?

Why do we seem to have such a struggle with the idea of perfection?

Well...

It starts at the end...

Literally.

Perfection is seen as an end result...

The goal...

The outcome.

But here is the issue with that...

Whenever we end up at the end of anything...

It is never perfect.

We always find a problem that exists...

A flaw...

Or a way to improve.

What this always implies...

Is that at the end of whatever we are working on...

It is not perfect.

This really becomes the entire reason we have such a terrible relationship with the idea of perfection.

We chase it...

And it is never there.

We try something different...

And it results in the same outcome.

We stop chasing...

And that itself does not make anything better.

No matter how we approach the goal of attaining perfection...

We never touch it...

Never even remotely close.

But perhaps there is a reason for that...

A reason that is perhaps counter-intuitive...

Yet explains why perfection always feels like it is out of reach.

What if the problem with perfection...

Is that we believe it is supposed to be a result?

Follow me here...

What if perfection was never meant to be an end result...

But rather...

A process.

What if perfection was always meant to be the process?

One that was not really meant to end?

When we look at how we thrive as human beings...

We never really thrive on end results.

There are many people who chase those end results...

Again and again...

And whenever they get to an end...

They are left dissatisfied.

So they have to go chasing for it again...

To be dissatisfied again.

Every end never provides that feeling of perfection.

On the other hand, however...

Those who seem to thrive at the highest of levels...

Never really reach an endpoint...

They are always in a process...

Of growth...

Of cultivation...

Of mastery...

Of sageship.

They are always working within some sort of process...

And they find their fulfillment in their lives by continuing to go through that process.

What is interesting about this as well...

Is that the process does not even need to bring anything of note.

You do not need to be the best at it...

You do not need recognition from anyone for it...

All you need...

Is to simply do it.

When you think about it in that sense...

Is the process not perfect?

It is by going through the process that we find what we are looking for.

It supplies us with what we need in life.

A path to cultivate and apply ourselves to things in our lives.

To partake and enjoy and deeply engage in the process...

What could be more perfect than that?

So, when you think about striving for perfection in your life...

Stop trying to apply it to the end result that will never feel complete...

And start finding the perfection in the process.
