Be Passionless
Why So Many Who Deeply Want Their Goals Fail To Go Far
Written by a human, for humans, always.
In the world of business advice and self-help...
There is one thing that you will hear all the time...
You need passion.
People say it in all sorts of ways...
Passion is fuel...
Passion is energy...
Passion is the power that comes from focusing on something that excites you.
People have even gone so far as to say that nothing has ever been accomplished without passion.
And there is a point to what they say.
If you do not have a mental, emotional, and spiritual commitment to whatever it is you’re working toward...
You will always struggle in comparison to those who do have that type of commitment.
However...
What many people discover is that “passion” is a dual-edged sword.
Why?
What many people discover...
Is that there will be points...
Many points...
Where they feel like they have absolutely no passion whatsoever.
Where life feels like a struggle.
Where nothing comes easily.
When frustration strikes.
Where doubts creep in.
When every single thing you do in every aspect of what needs to be done...
Feels terrible.
You’re tired.
You lack inspiration.
At more points than you would like to admit...
You lack passion.
Now for many people...
They will hear all the “advice” that is out there...
And it will feel like that advice is telling them to quit.
Instead of feeling inspired by the advice...
This lack of passion begins to feel like a death sentence.
It tells them...
You’ll never make it because you do not have enough passion.
But this is what the “advice” you generally hear never gets right...
All emotions...
Including passion...
Come and go.
None of them is ever permanent.
Every other emotion that you feel will have periods where they are here, strong, and empowering...
And periods where they disappear...
Where they cannot be found...
Where it feels like they may never come back.
What the “advice” gets wrong...
Is that it is absolutely normal to feel like that.
It is human.
You will not feel “passionate” all the time.
You cannot.
It is not possible.
Most importantly...
It is not necessary.
Not feeling passionate in the moment will happen.
There is nothing wrong with that.
In fact...
Be passionless.
Move forward into the struggle.
Get the work done when you do not feel like it.
When exhaustion hits...
Do what you’re able.
When the ideas are not coming to you...
Either do something derivative to keep the momentum going...
Struggle through it until you find the ideas...
Or better...
Both.
Sometimes it is by going back through the basics that we figure out what we are missing.
Sometimes we must struggle with an idea to begin to see things in new ways.
Understand that you are human...
You cannot be brilliant and innovative all the time...
Things take time...
Life requires areas of stability that are sometimes dull and tedious...
There will be times where you will need to slow down to unbearable sluggish speeds so that you do not crash...
It is all right if you do not feel passionate all of the time.
Here is one other thing that the common “advice” gets wrong...
How they talk about passion makes it feel that you must start with passion...
And that it must always be the driving force.
But the reality...
Is that passion often follows overcoming everything else.
The challenges.
The struggles.
The monotonous.
When we get to the other side of these...
Is often when we feel most passionate.
But it is not permanent.
It can drive us to start the next cycle...
But it will not last us through.
If you want to reach your goals...
It is all right to be passionless at times.
Keep moving forward toward your goals.
If it is something that you care about...
You will feel the passion again...
By working with and through the different cycles that exist.
