A Different Approach Going Into The New Year

What I Do Differently That Has Led To My Successes

Many people are prepping for the New Year.

We are all about to hear...

About everyone’s resolutions.

This is one thing that I know...

Many of these resolutions are going to be big...

Even gigantic...

And if that is you...

I wish you luck.

The statistics indicate that you will need it...

With around 50% of people failing their resolutions by the end of January....

And less than 10% of people who make it to year’s end.

That is just the reality of it...

For a variety of reasons...

Mostly just human nature playing out at fairly predictable, albeit sad, rates.

Which brings me to myself...

What are my goals for the New Year?

I think about the path of my life often...

Because it has been...

Eccentric.

I’ve gone from seeking a career in accounting...

To designing a category of business called Sageship...

Where I coach individuals and organizations from the entrepreneurial level to the C-suite level...

Which has taken me to getting a Doctorate in Functional Medicine...

Being awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Advanced Studies in Psychology....

Getting awarded and nominated for over 150 awards...

Having written 1,093 articles in an equal number of days, as I write, edit, and publish articles every single day...

While also pursuing a semi-professional athletic career where I have recently become a podium finisher in Obstacle Course Racing.

And that is just my career...

Without accounting for the development of my Faith or my relationship with my wonderful spouse.

When you look at a list of accomplishments like that...

You might consider that I set myself high goals...

Huge resolutions...

And I was recently reminded of this perception when a good friend and peer in the world of writing said...

“Merry Christmas, my friend, and wish you to achieve all the new heights you set for yourself this year!”

I was thinking of their words...

And thought to myself...

What are the new heights I will be setting for myself?

But here is the thing...

That is not really how I approach goals, nor my career.

I do not set heights that I expect to attain...

I do not create large expectations for what I am going to do in the year.

In fact...

I do the opposite.

I create small goals every year.

Important goals...

But small.

But why is that?

I have learned over the years...

That it is not the size of the goal that creates the size of the success...

It is your ability to consistently do the right things...

That creates the size of success.

This is the differentiator.

I’m not saying that it is wrong to have large goals...

What I am saying is that the large goals only happen...

When you do the right smaller things.

The large recognitions only are attained...

When people see you consistently doing the small things the right way.

The large opportunities are only given...

To those who demonstrate that they are trustworthy in being able to do the small things well and consistently.

I can tell you from my own life...

That when I chased the large opportunities...

I rarely was given them.

But when I dedicated myself to doing the small things the right way...

I have been given opportunities I never imagined.

So that is what I dedicate myself to...

Doing the small things right.

And I have Faith that the new heights will be found along the way.
