Journey From Leadership To Sageship... Using Absolutely No Artificial Intelligence
This Marks the 1,000th Article that I have Written in a Row.
I have Been Writing and Publishing Articles...
Every Single Day...
Without the Use of Any Artificial Intelligence for My Writing.
I have Written on the Good Days...
And the Bad Days...
When I have Motivation...
And When there was Not Even an Ounce of Motivation to Continue...
I have Written on Sunny Days...
Rainy Days...
Snowy Days...
And On Vacation Days.
I have Not Missed a Single Day...
For Any Reason.
This Journey has been Incredible...
Life and Career Altering.
Since I Began Writing Articles Daily...
There have been 130 Awards and Nominations that I have Received...
I have Been Recognized as a Hall of Fame Leadership Coach...
Became a #1 Creator on Multiple Writing Platforms...
Been on the Covers of Magazines...
And Even been on a Billboard in Times Square, New York.
I’m also in the Process of Receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Advanced Studies in Psychology...
Have been Featured as a “Top Doctor” for my Work and Research in Human Psychophysiology and Potential...
And have Even Received the Opportunity to be a Semi-Professional Athlete.
All of This...
Because I Began to Write Articles Every Single Day.
That May Seem Strange...
But it Makes More Sense when You Understand the “How” Behind Everything.
So, let’s Start the Rules that I Gave Myself.
I had a Very Simple Goal...
I had to Write a Minimum of 250 Word Articles...
Every Day...
And Publish.
Now, that Sounds Simple in Theory...
And it is Simple...
But What there are Many, Far More Complicated Factors at Play Behind this Rule.
Many of which have to Do with what is Known as the Halo Effect.
The Halo Effect is a Principle which States that By Focusing on One Specific Thing...
Other Aspects of Life Related to that Thing will Also Improve...
Either By Necessity or By Proximity.
How Did that Work?
Well, before I began this Journey, I had Already Identified that the “Leadership Development” Industry Did Not Work.
At its Height, it was $350 Billion Industry...
With a Rate of 80% “Complete” Failure...
And “Limited” Success the Remainder.
I had Identified that Psychophysiology was a Large Part of the Reason that Occurred...
Which is Why Burnout has, and Continues, to Expand Beyond 80% of the Workforce...
As well as Discovering some Foundational Problems that the Business Model of Leadership Development was Built Upon.
But...
I had Not Quite Figured Out how to Discuss All of this Clearly...
Nor the Right Wording for All of It.
By Writing Every Day...
I had to Force Myself to Understand these Concepts Better to Talk about them Better.
It Pushed Me to Learn Messaging Better...
And Figure Out How to Explain Complex Psychophysiological Concepts in Ways that Could be Understood More Easily and Applied Practically.
That was the Beginning of the Transition into what I Call “Sageship” Today...
Built Upon a Human Base, Focused on Psychophysiology, Holistic Health, Wisdom, and Business Models based on Natural Systems.
With All of This...
Another Halo Effect has to Do with the Amount of Writing that I Did...
When You Write Constantly...
You Also Must Grow Constantly.
If You Fail to Grow While Writing So Much...
Your Writing Becomes Repetitive...
Boring...
And Unfulfilling.
You Cannot Build a Long Writing Career on That...
And I have Seen Many Individuals Try and Fail.
So, to Fuel My Writing...
I had to Fuel My Learning as Well.
As You Grow...
So Does Your Writing.
This Becomes what I Call a Virtuous Cycle.
One Positive Thing Contributes to Another Positive Thing...
Which then Contributes Back to the Previous Positive Thing...
Creating an Upward Spiraling Effect.
But this Virtuous Cycle was Not Limited to Just Knowledge and Writing.
When You Study Psychophysiology...
I Mean “Deeply” Look into the Research Papers and Reality of the Scientific Research...
You Discover that there is a Lot of Misinformation and Misunderstandings.
There are Also Points where to Find the Truth...
You Need to Test the Information that You’re Finding.
Not in Theory, but in Reality.
But...
I have a Foundational Belief that if You are Going to Talk and Teach Something...
You Need to Live It.
You Need to “Be” It.
This is Called Being an Exemplar.
So...
As I was Learning and Understanding these Different Aspects of Psychophysiology...
I Practiced Them in My Own Life First.
Validated them on Myself.
Grew Myself.
And It Worked.
Some things Did Not Work, and I Discarded...
Other Things Worked Immensely.
I Raised My IQ Enough to Join MENSA...
Which is Restricted to Individuals with the Top 2% of IQ in the World...
I Raised My EQ to Be in the Top 1%...
And I Improved My Health and Fitness...
To Become Functionally 4.5 - 9 Years Younger Biologically than my Chronological Age...
Which is all Part of How I was Selected as a Participate for a Health and Wellness Competition...
Which Launched My Semi-Professional Athletic Career.
All of These, and More, Gave Me More Things to Write About...
And Utilize with Clients...
To Further that Virtuous Cycle.
This is How the Halo Effect Works.
All of this Occurred in My Life...
Because I Focused on Writing Every Single Day...
And I had to Align Every Other Aspect of My Life to Accomplish that Goal.
Another Aspect of This that is Incredibly Important has to Do with Habits, Energy (Mg-ATP), Stress Thresholds, and Flow States.
How Do These Contribute to Getting to This Point?
To Push Yourself into Your Potential...
You Need Flow States.
This is the Psychophysiological State of Being Where You Feel Your Best, Perform Your Best, and are Most Creative and Innovative.
If You Can “Get” to Flow States...
They Become Autotelic...
Meaning We “Seek” Them as an “End”.
When I Write...
I Find a Flow State...
Every Single Time.
I Write “To” Write...
Because I Get Into Flow States “Through” Writing.
Writing “Is” The End.
I Do Not Write for the Awards, Recognition, or Money.
I Write Because I “Want” To Write.
All of the Awards, Recognition, and Money have Come as a “Result” of the Desire to Write...
Not Because I Sought Those.
I Could “Stop” Receiving All of those Things, and I Would Absolutely Still Write.
Because Writing “Is” The Gift.
Now...
Flow States are Not Something that “Just Happens”.
This is Where Our Stress Threshold becomes Important.
At Any Given Time...
We Can Only Handle So Many Simultaneous Stressors.
Too Little Stressors and You Become Bored...
Too Many Stressors and You Enter Dis-Stress...
Both of these are Flow Blockers.
If You want to Find Flow States...
You need to Master the Challenge-to-Skill Ratio.
You Need “Just Enough” Stressors to Ignite Flow States.
Based on the Research, this Happens When a Challenge is About 4% Greater than Our Current Skill Level.
It is Enough to Push Us into Growth...
But Not So Much that it Breaks Us.
So You Need to Navigate Making the Challenge “Enough” without Breaking Yourself.
That is Where the 250-Word Minimum came to be.
When I Began Writing...
Writing Consistently was “Very” Hard.
The 250-Word Minimum was Designed to Help Navigate the Challenge-to-Skill Ratio.
It was Hard Enough to Be Engaging...
But Not So Difficult that I Couldn’t Complete It on Any Day.
Even to Today, I have Maintained that Minimum because I have Some Days that are “Incredibly” Difficult...
Where I am Struggling with Ideas...
Struggling with Energy (Mg-ATP)...
Struggling with Time...
And if My Minimum was Higher...
There is a Good Chance that I would Get Blocked from Flow States.
By Keeping the Minimum Low...
I Keep Myself Able to Continue to Go.
Also, By Keeping the Goal Low, it Helped Me to Establish a Habit.
Habits Occur when We Do Something So Often and Consistently that Our Bodies Optimize Doing that Skill...
Making it Easier and Easier to Maintain and Continue to Do.
This is Accomplished by Optimizing Energy (Mg-ATP) Pathways throughout the Body to Continue to Do Whatever Skill We are Doing.
You Can Even Get to a Point where “Doing” a Habit ends up Utilizing “Less” Energy (Mg-ATP) than “Not Doing” the Habit.
It May Sound Strange, but it has to Do with How Less Energy (Mg-ATP) is Used as Habits Develop, and How Taking “Other” Pathways Requires “More” Energy (Mg-ATP), as well as How Stressors Cause Energy (Mg-ATP) Leaks.
So...
Building Habits becomes the Body’s Default Pathway to Use and Conserve Energy (Mg-ATP).
How Long Does it Take for a Habit to Build?
About 66 Days on Average.
Then...
Once You Establish a Habit...
You Just Need to Maintain It.
But Here is Where it Becomes Interesting...
Once the Habit is Established...
It is Easier to Continue Doing that Habit...
It Uses “Less” Energy (Mg-ATP) to Accomplish It...
Which Allows You to Use that Energy (Mg-ATP) Toward Other Goals and Challenges in Your Life.
Can You See How This is Another Virtuous Cycle that Plays Out?
All of these Factors Play into Making the Journey Incredible.
Now...
Perhaps there is One More Factor to Consider within All of this...
Especially in Today’s World...
To Use Artificial Intelligence, or Not?
Why Have I Chosen Not to Use AI in My Writing?
There are a Few Reasons.
First...
I Honestly Have Not Found it to “Improve” My Writing.
I “Have” Seen AI do some Interesting Things...
Even in Writing...
But Not “So” Incredible to Outweigh the Benefits of Writing Things Out Myself.
By Forcing Myself to Do the Writing Myself...
Has Forced Me to Become More Creative...
Challenged Me to Test My Ideas...
And Pushed Me to Think.
That is A Large Part of Why I Continue to Write.
There has been Good Research that has Revealed that When You “Outsource” Your Thinking to AI...
You Become Dumber.
That is Something that I have No Desire to Do.
Now, You can Use AI to “Supplement” Your Thinking, and there is Nothing Wrong with That...
If...
The AI is Able to Supplement Your Thinking.
But Here is the Next Problem that I have Had...
I have Not Found Any AI System that can Accurately Look at Scientific Research In Depth and Get the Results Correct.
This Appears to be an Unfortunate Consequence of AI Being Trained to Look at What it Finds “Most Frequently”...
And Most Scientific Research is Purposefully Skewed to Get Specific Results...
Has Taken a “Lot” of Liberties to make Provocative Claims that the Research Does Not “Actually” Reveal when You Read the Research Results...
And the Fact that there are Few Good Large Research Studies, and Many More Small Studies that Frequently Do Not Become Verified in Meta-Analyses.
That also Does Not take into Account the Blatant Misinformation and Fake Research that is Sadly Common in Today’s World which Further Skews AI’s Training Data.
The Result?
In My Work...
I Really Cannot Utilize AI in its Current Form.
I Cannot Outsource My Thinking to It...
And I Cannot Rely on it to Give Me Accurate Data.
The Result...
I Do Not Use AI.
But...
I Think that this is a Greater Boon for My Work for This Reason...
I have to Actually “Know” My Work.
Because I am Unable to Rely on AI...
I am Required to “Deeply” Understand Every Aspect of My Work.
This Came into Very Clear Focus for Me Recently when I was having a Conversation with Someone about Different Statistics.
We were Looking at Burnout, Business, Entrepreneurship, and Age.
They Kept Asking Me Questions about these...
And 95% of the Time, My Estimates on the Statistics were Nearly On the Dot to the Reality We Discovered...
Which I said Faster than they Could Type into Search.
How?
I had Internalized All of this Data and Could Make Expert Estimates based on My Knowledge.
That is a Very Powerful Tool at Your Disposal...
To have So Much Expertise on a Topic that, even without Seeing the Information Directly in Front of You...
You can Accurately Assess the Situation.
But that Can Only Happen when You “Know” the Information...
You Cannot Get to that Level of Mastery through Outsourcing the Information.
Now...
Does that Mean that AI is Not a Good Tool?
Of Course Not.
It “Can” Be a Wonderful Tool...
But it is a Tool with Limitations...
And One that Cannot Currently Match the Gifts that Humans Naturally Have.
Which is Why I Plan to Continue to Write...
Every Day...
Without the Use of AI.
When I look at How My Life has Improved through Writing...
Why Would I Want it Any Other Way?
This has Become a Foundational Part of My Life.
One which I Believe will Continue to Serve Me Well...
And though I have No Idea How Far it Will Take Me...
The Idea of Continuing this Journey is So Incredibly Exciting.
